Every year, the big paint companies come out with their color forecasts for the upcoming season. Sherwin Williams created these 4 distinctive color palettes to show off the hues they see as fashion forward for 2011. We thought we'd share them and have a little fun at the same time by turning it into a bit of a quiz:
Above are the 4 palettes, each marked with a number as 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Below are the 4 palette descriptions, as written by Sherwin Williams, marked A, B, C and D. Check them out and compare and then make your guesses as to which description matches which palette.
If you'd like to play along, put your answer below in the comments following this format. Example: 1C, 2A, 3D, 4B And, while we are at it, let us know, by number, which one is the most YOU! Example: Me = 1
Palette Descriptions:
A. Gentle Medley: fresh, airy, innocent.
Hard times call for soft colors.
B: Purely Refined: elegant, tailored, understated.
True luxury doesn't shout its presence with glitz, glamour and bling. It whispers, revealing its pedigree through clean, classic lines, exquisite tailoring and handcrafted heirloom quality.
C. Bold Invention: experimental, artsy, expressive.
The city never sleeps. Neither do its colors.
D. Restless Nomad: sultry, exotic, primal.
Thanks to the Internet, everyone now has a passport to wander the world, soaking up its flavors, images and colors, and stirring them into an eclectic global design stew.
We'll reveal the correct order tomorrow - hope you'll test your marketing lingo and color spotting prowess along with us!

Thanks for sharing this! I started a vintage shop this year, and I find that staying on top of color trends and interior design trends is really important to me now.
Okay, here are my guess.

Thanks!

1 is "nomadic", using the new antique golds, bright purples, and browns so popular in middle-eastern nomadic cultures.
2-B
2 is "elegant" using the rich purples traditionally connected with royalty. The soft greys are also very elegant and clean.
3-A
3 is "airy" because it includes those light turquoises and aquas that are trendy right now.
4-C
4 is "bold", using the colors and flavors of Miami and Los Angeles... bright ocean colors, with pops of orange to spice up your life.
My house is 1 in the public areas (living, dining, kitchen) and 2 in the private (bedroom, bathrooms). Very sexy color scheme!

I'm a little surprised to see how perfectly our living areas fall right into #1. But I wouldn't call it 'Restless Nomad' - in our house, it comes off more as the description behind 'Bold Invention'.

None are much like me. My palette would be a greyscale with bold whites and blacks, and maybe a splash of the lime from 4 or the fuchsia from 1. If I had to choose my favourites though, I'd go with 1 and 2.
Messrs. Sherwin and Williams are making it way too easy to be a contrarian!
Fun! 2A, 3B, 4C, 1D. I am definitely 1, with a touch of turquoise from 4.

Based it on adjectives.
A. Gentle Medley: fresh, airy, innocent. Hard times call for soft colors.
Fresh means green, and innocent means either light blue or light pink. I'll go for 4.
B: Purely Refined: elegant, tailored, understated. True luxury doesn't shout its presence with glitz, glamour and bling. It whispers, revealing its pedigree through clean, classic lines, exquisite tailoring and handcrafted heirloom quality.
Tailored and pedigree usually means navy blue, "doesn't shout" means gray, so 2.
C. Bold Invention: experimental, artsy, expressive. The city never sleeps. Neither do its colors.
Bold means orange or red, so 3.
D. Restless Nomad: sultry, exotic, primal. Thanks to the Internet, everyone now has a passport to wander the world, soaking up its flavors, images and colors, and stirring them into an eclectic global design stew.
Exotic and sultry means red-violet, so 1.
Me = 3.

1D, 2B, 3A, 4C
Totally a FOUR with a tad bit of 3, depending on the day...

4 C <--- me, but I'd boot out the red and add the green and the teal from 3. Does that mean I'm artsy and expressive, with a touch of innocent and soft? Sounds about right.

Don't like any of them as a grouping. (I rarely do like the combinations paint companies try to promote this way.) I do like individual colors from all the gourpings, though.
(I concur with the majority, D-B-C-A)
1-D, 2-B, 3-A, 4-C

anyone else catch that the post following this one for "Renegade Craft Fair" is almost perfect match for Pallate #4? :)

And I'm a 2, whatever they call it.
1D, 2A, 3B, 4C
It's fascinating how diverse the answer are.
whew - I'm #82 and I'm the first palette (D)
1D, 2B, 3A, 4C
I think...1D, 2B, 3A, 4C
Me = 3
1C, 2B, 3A, 4D; me =1
1d, 4c, 2b, 3a
me=3
1D, 2B, 3A, 4C

Sorry, too lazy to do the number/letter combo thing. But 1 is definitely me! (Although 4 plus a bit of orange is my kitchen)

That light blue in palette 4 is similar to the one in my kitchen, but I'd like to use more colors from palette 2 in my other rooms.
1 D Restless nomad because of the saturated colors
2 B Refined, because grey is seen as refined and the new beige
3 A Gentle because of the soothing institutional colors (my spin)
4 C Bold because of the red.
Me - Mostly 4, with the addition of pink and a less muddy yellow.
Except I see myself described more by the words Restless Nomad
1C - me

I think so because:
1-Mixes bright reds with yellows and grays...bold, innovative, the loudest palette to match the city that never sleeps.
2-The navy and dusky colors make it the most masculine pallette...refined tailoring.
3-The softest palette to my eye and the colors most likely found in nature...gentle medley.
4-could be a toss-up with 1 but each color alone on this palette could represent an ethnic theme in a room...restless nomad.
