Color Story: What Do You Think Inspired This Space?

The Color Cure

We've been thrilled by all the great color submissions we've received during The Color Cure, it's so exciting! And this story is a fun one: a mostly neutral living room in a Providence, RI 1930's Cape was lacking a little life until the newly-married homeowners had an AHA! moment and discovered the family of accent colors that would make their room pop. What do you think inspired this space? Hint...

From Joanna of Providence, Rhode Island:

My husband & I purchased our 1200 sq ft 1930's Cape a little over 2 years ago. After months of renovating (expanding wall openings, repairing electrical, stripping YEARS of wallpaper) we finally decided on a cool, neutral palette for the furniture, rugs, walls & trim. What we lacked was color. We felt we had the color tones down to a science; the greys, browns & tans. As self-proclaimed color lovers, we simple couldn't narrow it down. Often we would retreat to our bedroom because there was simply no desire to hangout downstairs. It was blah city. Months went by, we planned our wedding & got married last October, when finally we had an AHA! moment. We came across our wedding invitation amongst the clutter that tends to build when one is in wedding planning mode, and realized we hit the jackpot! Blues, yellows, black & white, even a little red. This was it, our new palette! We took both the actual colors and tones in each color family and just ran with it! What we got was more than just a finished interior (let's be honest, it's never finished!), but warm, casual living/dining rooms where we actually found ourselves having meals & napping on the couch rather than running upstairs. We've also got a daily reminder of one pretty spectacular day!
