Why do desks in catalog photos always look so organized? Besides the lack of papers and minimal office supplies, they almost always have color-coordinated desktop accessories. Even if you've got a realistic amount of office supplies, a matching desk set can at least make you seem organized. Click below for more.

The Container Store is currently having a Tax Time Sale, with several desk sets marked down. Shown at top: Silver Mesh line.

The Aluminum Desk Set from Design Within Reach (on sale for $355) includes a Letter Tray Set, Long Box with Lid, Business Card File, Business Card Holder, Modular Organizer, and Mouse Pad.

At Russell and Hazel's site, you can shop by color. Boxes, binders, and desktop files come in a wide range of hues. Shown: Espresso and Celery.

Elum carries desk sets that tuck a coordinated selection of cards and envelopes into a matching box. These aren't cheap at $150 each, but they make a nice luxury gift.

Putting mismatched files and binders in color-coordinated storage boxes makes things look streamlined. Image: Canvas Storage from West Elm. If you currently have a hodge-podge of desk accessories, you can paint or spraypaint the items you have (depending on the what they're made of) to unify your color scheme. You can also use the DIY step-by-step from Jessica's Photo Box Facelift to color-coordinate storage boxes.
