This may be something that works best in a sunny beach town, but the famous stripes of Costa Nova, Portugal are such fun color inspiration.
The houses were originally fisherman's shacks, painted to stand out against the sand. Over the years, they've gradually become vacation homes, and the latticing on many of them has been redone. The stripes, meanwhile, have become a colorful, beloved symbol of the town.
Unless you live somewhere equally flamboyant, it may be best to downsize the idea. I can see it looking lovely in a light-filled mud room, the floor of a back deck, or a small screened-in patio.
