Colorful kitchens abound in staged commercial interiors. Catalogues have convinced me that purple cabinets and green kitchen walls are the norm. In reality, you would be hard pressed to find any kitchen with colorful cabinets and walls. We salute the house tours brave enough to use color in the kitchen!
Why do people feel comfortable painting living rooms turquoise and hanging orange wallpaper in the bedroom, but these same people would never use those colors in the kitchen? The answer is resale value. The quality of a kitchen can define the value of a house or condo. Most people do not want to turn-off future buyers by adding controversial color to the most important room in a home. This makes sense if you plan on moving or renting after a few years, but if you’re settled for the long term don’t be afraid to add color.
Depending on your neighborhood, adding a bit of pizzazz to your kitchen could boost its resale value. If your area is filled with traditional families, you might want to stick to neutrals. But, if you live in a more eclectic community bold choices might be appreciated.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I painted the kitchen in my last apartment purple! i loved it, landlord hated it though :P
Who says kitchens need to be one color? Photo #3 really grabs me!!! And I like that the chairs and backsplash aren't all matchy matchy. Two tones of the same color goes a long way for aesthetics...these colors are fantastic!
The 3rd pic is great. But that last one...well I'm scratching my head. It seem hodge podge-y, but maybe it just needs a photo from a different angle.
In my opinion, the last one is absolutely horrid. What on earth is that pink thing.....and what's with the misaligned cabinet doors? I usually see the good in any design but this one is just plain awful.
I never understood it when people get caught up in remodeling/painting their own house on how someone else might like it (future buyer). Do what you like and quit worrying about some stranger. The exception would be if you are remodeling solely to sell a place.
I love the second one the most, so cute.
i'm a maple/dark granite person, but I love #1
lol, ec05, I have a maple/dark granite (black with copper flecks) kitchen and I am seriously considering painting my kitchen/dining ceiling metallic orange.
Pyrex is absolutely right. These photo is for re-nest. There is ok!
i support colorful kitchens! not so much all of these though... i wish i had more photos of mine online but my kitchen is a bright teal very similar to the first image and it's the #1 thing people compliment in my apartment. these are my cabinets: http://www.flickr.com/photos/eloisemoorehead/4394216552/in/set-72157622931102540
I love everything about kitchen 2. It's so cozy.
The pictures are beautiful. Kitchen is one of the most integral corner of a home. It's a popular place for a family to gather after a day long work. If a kitchen is made vibrant with well designed cabinets matched colors, it all adds to the gleam.
