We've seen a lot of wood paneled walls here on Apartment Therapy. Do you cover them, celebrate them, how can you lighten them up? One popular solution is to paint them. Since it's Color Month, I'm looking for examples of colorful paints on wood paneling.
The search for painted wood paneling followed a pretty heated discussion between my husband and I last night. Our guest bedroom currently has white-painted wood paneling in it that's, frankly, a little boring. Image 4 got me thinking about darkening the mood a bit in there with something more like charcoal. He was adamantly opposed. I gathered these examples of non-white-painted paneling, showed him, and by this morning he was saying, "About that paneling...". Looks like he's up for considering something bolder now. I'll keep you posted!

I would really like to find out more about the fourth photo - link to DecorPad turns up just the photo with no further sources or information. TinEye search results also yielded no further clues. Any ideas, anyone?
The last bedroom with the green paneling is beautiful!
For me it looks very Disney.
I've never seen paneling like that in real life, only the really ugly dark kind most often seen in "recreation rooms" on tv.
The ones in these photos look really lovely though! You should have seen the walls in the horrible basement suite we lived in last. Fake wood paneling veneer, not even really attached to the walls. Just hanging there, rippling in waves and peeling away holes where piles of bugs would gather up and die. Ugh.
I was going to vote "nay" until I saw the 4th picture. That's gorgeous.
Love this! I have a tiny craft room in my house that has brown paneling. I'm definitely going to paint it a bright happy color!
I don't know how I feel about painting real wood, quality, antique paneling. Anything newer like knotty pine or faux wood (masonite) paneling looks much better painted with the texture showing than keeping the usually ugly wood tones. (Although I'd actually prefer to remove the paneling and have smooth walls, personally.)
But the good stuff... that would be hard, even if I didn't really like it.
this is such a gorgeous cheaper option than ripping out wood paneling! i like it because it's not just a painted wall--it has become a painted AND textured wall. it's visually interesting.
I bought a house almost completely covered in knotty pine wood panelling. (The previous owner was really into a "cabin" look.) We painted it all, and I really like the texture it gives to our home. Now we have a great cabin/country cozy feel to our house, but with bright, happy colors.
I really prefer the painted paneling, unless the wood is really nice. I have long been a fan of traditional Scandinavian painted paneling. The bold colors are great.
I think anything you can do to disguise horrible wood paneling is a plus. I painted a city skyline in a basement room that was paneled, it turned out really well. You can check out the before and after magic here
