I like the idea of colorful patterned curtains because once you find the right fabric, they can sum up and showcase your style. From this outsider's perspective, that's the case with the curtains in the homes of Nicole Balch of Making it Lovely (Image 2) Sherry and John Petersik from Young House Love (Image 4) .
In the first image, I love the way the greens and the squares in the drapes play off the mustard edging and stripes of the sheets. In Images 5 and 9, the colors of the curtains are unexpected and playful. In all three instances, white would have been peaceful but way less interesting.

love the purple curtains. i will be looking for those! m
So pretty. Some remind me of the green and yellow dragonflies batik print curtains I made for the spare room from fabric bought at JoAnn. They made the light and that whole room wonderfully serene, like a tropical garden.
Does anyone have ideas for dressing up windows when you can't hang curtain rods and have super high ceilings. I live in a loft apartment and the window wall is solid brick/stone not sure. The windows are old and single pane...walls are stark white and blah. I also wish I could hang curtains to help w/ the draft. Any ideas??
I'm in love with the vintage plant stand being used as a night stand in the first pic.
@Longorious - What's the ceiling like? You could always hang a rod from cables from the ceiling.
I recommend that you search this blog by keyword. I saw similar questions here that got some useful responses in the last couple of years. Good luck!
@nate f Thanks that's a great idea.
Love it!
@nate f: I also love the plant stand! Also, the #1 curtains are my fav, great pic!
I like the way patterned curtains soften and dapple the incoming sunlight like branches and leaves do when I sit under a tree.
And I like the way the floral and other botanical curtains bring the garden indoors, especially when there is no garden outdoors.
What great timing; I'm doing the math on ordering yards and yards of fabric to DIY floor to ceiling curtains for my windows w/ 10ft ceilings :) I love this look and plan on doing it in nearly every room in the house. Our last house was all linen/white curtains and now I'm looking to shake things up a bit.
#1 - the pattern, the night stand/plant table, even the blue ceramic birds used as bookends...
Where can I find a vintage nightstand/plant stand like this? Any ideas?
As per previous comments - where would I find a plant stand or night stand like the one in the first photo?
Re: Plant Stand
I've seen a few of them on ebay from time to time. They usually want way too much for them. If you know someone that's handy, they should be able to recreate one from a picture. I've saved pics of several different ones for reference on a future DIY plant stand.
