Laura and Dan live together in Somerville, Massachusetts, and with their upcoming wedding, they are looking to merge her penchant for things girly and growing with his love of local art and a need to feel comfortable. Both want to make their loft a cozy and welcoming space. Here's how we combined their styles:
With Dan's cat Schmutz on the loose, considering a sofa with a slipcover or of a pet-friendly microfiber is a must.
To make Laura's pink more palatable, bring balance to the masculine and feminine elements in a space. This quatrefoil rug could be considered a girly pattern, but the gray-blue hue is a more Dan-friendly color. Both of these throw pillows have a bit of pink, but the geometrics keep them from looking too frilly. There's actually a floral print under that white herringbone!
With their love of art and photos, Laura and Dan can really embrace the gallery wall. Mixing personal photos, art, and objects keeps it interesting, so it's all about experimenting and evolving.
Packing in plants can be hard without looking like a botanical garden. Try out hanging or air plants and succulents to add texture and visual interest to a room that already has potted plants and cut flowers.
A mix of hard and soft adds a relaxed feel to a space. Go with tough accents like this accordion table, but balance them with comfy pieces like a pouf. The burlap trunk has hard edges, but plenty of storage for some extra throw blankets.
Thanks, Laura & Dan!
