The recent cold spell that took over most of the country this past week was a welcome change for some of us. It got me thinking about how much I love cool weather and the ability to open up the windows and snuggle up on the couch with a cozy (and chic!) throw blanket.
Throws with geometric patterns are extremely popular and add dimension and interest to whatever room they are placed in. Fold it length wise and drape over the foot of the bed or use over the corner of the sofa in the living room.
When selecting a throw take a few things into consideration: warmth, fabric, size and style. If you're looking to snuggle up with a loved one, you'll need to make sure that the throw is large enough for two. Living in an area that doesn't fall below 50 degrees doesn't necessarily warrant a thick wool throw — you don't want to just tuck into the closet after realizing it's too warm.
Here are some excellent cozy and chic throw blankets:
• Chevron Throw, Nube Green $135.00
• Draper Stripe Chinois Blue Throw, Dwell Studio $150.00
• Danish Wool Blanket, Mar Mar Co. £69.00
• Gray Throw, H&M £34.99
• Hailey Throw, Crate and Barrel $89.95

Ut's going to be 100 degrees where I live today. I can't even think about blankets yet.
I have SO MANY throw blankets, it's a little ridiculous. I have one couch and two chairs (and a bed).
I have a purple throw that was originally purchased for my car with leather seats. It's snuggly, and I love it.
I have a tie blanket that is SUPER warm, and perfect for afternoon naps in the sun - pull it over your head, and it's complete blackout. Perfect for when I worked nights with a south-facing window.
I have a tweed throw that worked great with our futon (before we got rid of it) and now sits with one of my chairs.
My husband and I got a granny-square quilt from his grandma for Christmas. I love it, it goes great with the pillow my sister (bodicegoddess) made for me.
Then we have a couple other cold-weather/guest blankets: a twin quilt that lives on our couch, and a thick down-alternative twin comforter. Both are perfect for winter in our little basement dwelling.
Anyone know of a slightly cheaper version of that chevron blanket? It's great but $135 for a blanket? Can't do that.
Thanks for the inspiration, but yeah, not spending that kind of money on a throw blanket, or any blanket for that matter. The H&M one is pretty much the top of my range, if it were in USD.
My throws are colorful, fringeless, durable, stain-resistant, machine wash and dry, fast-drying, inexpensive, and keep us warm. My throws aren't elegant, and I dislike their static electricity shocks, but my dogs don't mind. They run cold year-round and relish the texture of polyester fleece throws on the seating and beds.
Am I the only one who thinks Etsy is THE place to get fun throw blankets? Hand-knitted or bust.
Pi: I just picked up a similar one at IKEA for $12. 100% cotton, decent size, very cozy. IKEA is often hit or miss, but I was very pleased with the quality of this one, and I love the black-and-white pattern for winter on my red sofa. See here: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60174950/
I live in Florida. I use throw blankets mainly to protect my upholstered furniture from three felines who shed enough fur to ball up and make another cat! My favorite is a moss green microfiber from KMart. I think it was $12, on sale. I would never pay a hundred bucks or more for a throw. Tops I'd put out is $50, and it would have to be special. Me? A cheapskate? You bet.
Wayfair actually sells the same chevron blanket for $105 in assorted colors. Just search for in2green Eco chevron blanket. I bought mine there a couple of weeks ago and it's super soft! An added plus is that it's machine washable.
I took up crocheting so I wouldn't have to pay those kind of prices for throw blankets.
You're totally depressing me! It was 98 yesterday and I see no sign of even a cool front yet! I'm so ready for lovely fall weather!
I'm addicted to throws. I just did a quick count in my head and I have over 11 (I'm sure I missed a couple). And we only have two people in the house.
i like the h&m's one the best but it's too bad i can't buy it here.
I have a bunch of throws too, but those are all pretty pricey. I also like Ikea as a cheaper source -- this in black, which is really gray/salt-and-pepper, adds great texture and warmth to my black-and-white bed.
Cold spell? When did that happen? A few days ago we in NYC had some slightly cooler weather (still not enough for wearing sleeves) but it quickly got back to hot and humid. I had to laugh at all the people here who were wearing boots, jackets, and scarves just because it was raining for a day. The temp was still about 76-70 and it was a warm rain. People can be so weird about a cool breeze. I was so happy that I could sleep with my windows open instead of cranking the A/C for a change! Blankets and throws can wait 'til after Indian Summer.
I meant to type that the temps were 65-70 degrees, not 76-70.
