I have always loved the distinguished look of a Chesterfield sofa. It demands and grabs the attention of anyone who walks into a room lucky enough to house this style of sofa. The shape is known all over the world with good reason - it's both comfortable and chic.
I've always told my fiance that I want us to one day own a Chesterfield sofa. Initially (like most people barely interested in home interiors) he wasn't a fan but after sharing loads of inspiration and different styling ideas he's finally seen the light. For me, these sofas can look great in so many different ways. If you're lucky enough to score a vintage leather Chesterfield that is so perfectly distressed it looks like a million bucks — consider yourself extremely lucky.
However, it's certainly not the end of the world if you find one in less than perfect condition because the options are endless. The next best thing to a perfectly distressed Chesterfield is an expertly reupholstered one. I'm a big advocate of using a lush velvet to encase a Chesterfield because velvet really adds onto the luxuriousness and over all vibe of the sofa.
Chesterfields can be incorporated into traditional, modern or contemporary homes, no matter the fabric!

A few weeks ago I found a beautiful, BRAND NEW kelly green Chesterfield sofa ON SALE. At that point, I really wished I was still sofa shopping.
My dream sofa as well!
Oh great, I just drooled all over my keyboard. Especially #4.
Pi, please DON'T tell me where you saw that kelly green one, kthx.
Super popular now, of course, but always a classic. Our caramel leather version (scored for just $300 on CraigsList) is the best sofa we've had yet. Supreme comfort, adaptable style (for my ever-changing interior) and, of course, the leather is unbelievably practical for a house with five kids under 10. Wipes clean.
I just saw another one, though not as large as ours, on my local CL for $500. Deals can be found if you keep your eye out!
This is still one of my all-time favorite rooms featured on AT, partly because of the fab sofa:

I was just thinking that I need a sofa that doesn't need to have the cushions adjusted every day. (Drives me nuts!) Plus leather? Chesterfield sounds perfect!
There are also some fabulous fabric Chesterfields around these days. Mitchell Gold has one that is dynamite.
I just used one in a recent staging project, it really made the room.

Hmm... all this time I thought a chesterfield and a sofa were the same thing. And I *have* an um... chesterfield sofa!
I am kind of starting to appreciate chesterfields recently. Are all chesterfields equally comfy? My local CL has a set of leather sofa and loveseat by hancock and moore, with a couple tears and and some buttons missing for $450. What do you think of the deals
Timely - I just today tagged a photo of a Chesterfield-style banquet from a restaurant. I always thought that would be great in my dining room.
I love the classic leather ones but this blue fabric one and scale has me drooling-

I bought a natural linen chesterfield from gilt.com for $1400 or so (Old Hickory Tannery) and it's beyond fabulous. It's the one piece of furniture in my house I love more than any other. And it's so comfy.
With all due respect to the chesterfield and the original posting, does anyone know more about the coffee table in the first picture? Specifically, where could I buy one!?
I love chesterfield sofas... on pictures, I had one and I'm sorry but I hate sofas that I can't slouch down in and I can't rest my head comfortably (there is no upper back support!)
bubusu I agree! We had a leather Chesterfield, and unless you wanted to sit very upright, it was pretty uncomfortable. Especially in the summer, when you'd stick to the leather.
In Canada 'chesterfield' was the word used for sofa or couch regardless of style. Kind of like we all say kleenex for all tissue. I still say chesterfield to this day! Lol. x
