I have to admit, even though I'm quite the clean freak, I did a little research on this one! It all started with my quest to clean my Dyson vacuum. I felt a little like Monica from Friends when she's caught using her dust buster to clean her vacuum which of course, seemed perfectly reasonable to me!
Once the vacuum was disassembled and cleaned, in true Monica Geller form it was on to the next appliance. I have my own methods of cleaning but found that it was helpful to know what others did. Not only are the posts below thoroughly helpful to get you started on a comprehensive cleaning of the large and small appliances in your home, but the comments by our readers add great tips and tricks which will get them sparkling in no time!

Completely OT, but I love that orange and white laundry.
As a person with dust allergies, the concept of a vacuum that you have to clean out is insane to me. To clean, you must touch and release dust and dirt into the air that you are trying to avoid by using an expensive vacuum, which defeats the purpose. This seems like an enormous design flaw.
I take my vacuum cleaner outdoors to clean it and change its bag.
Um. I have never heard of a vacuum that DOESN'T need cleaning of SOME sort.
I have a bagless variety and have to clean out the foam filter on occasion...otherwise, its efficiency is compromised. A machine made to suck up dirt, dust, and dander will logically need to have all of the dust, dirt, and dander removed from all of the crack and crevices. Duh!
Um. Well, yes, cracks and crevices, that's a given. I'm talking about the receptacle that the dirt goes into in lieu of a bag. That is a lot of crap that is being re-introduced to the atmosphere when you clean it out.
