I'll admit it, I'm a little obsessed with having a tidy computer. But while I love looking at a clean screen and touching pristine keys, I don't exactly have oodles of time to keep up with this. I can, however, spare a minute a day...
Just as with house cleaning, it's easier to keep your computer clean with regular maintenance. Also like with cleaning the home, if you have the tools handy, you're more likely to use them. My two primary tools, which I keep next to my computer, are my screen cleaning cloth and keyboard wipes (or cleaning solution). Here's how my "minute of cleaning" breaks down:
1. Turn keyboard/ laptop upside down over the trash ~ 10s
2. Wipe screen with the terry cloth side of the cleaning cloth ~ 15s
3. Wipe screen with the microfiber side of the cleaning cloth ~ 15s
4. Wipe down keyboard and trackpad (or mouse) with the cleaning wipes ~ 20s
I do this a few times a week, although during busy periods that involve eating near my computer, I'll do it every day. Every other month I also do a deep clean that involves an air blower to really get the keyboard looking spiffy.
