Sexy surge protectors? Yes, they do exist. Two of them, actually. These surge protectors by Belkin are called Compact (up top) and Conceal (after the jump).

The designs of both of these are focused on making our homes, ever increasing in chargers and electronics, a bit more cord-inated. The Compact is made to look good even exposed. It has eight total outlets: 4 regular ones and 4 made for large charger boxes that never fit on normal power strips.
The Conceal is made to hide it all. It has eleven total outlets: 6 regular ones, 4 for charger boxes, and one convenience outlet on the outside of the minimalist cover.
Both of these are finished in that nice, smooth, white we've come to love on our personal electronics and both sell for around $30 at Amazon. Psst! They're sold out over at the Belkin site and they're more like $50 over there.

Very nice.
I think I like the concealed for 2 reasons.
1) it looks like you ca get it off the floor--whereas with the unconcealed one it looks like it is designed to rest on the floor--and that's important if you ever expect me to get those dustbunnies out of there.
2) No dust!
But that's only the nifty power bar--what do you do with the actual cords themselves? You know, the ones that dangle down between the various components--themselves and the power bar. I wrapped mine up neatly, pur twist ties on them and the put them into a wire mesh basket I'd screwed off the floor of my desk.
That worked well until I had to move the desk.
drat, that should be "....screwed onto the back of my desk, getting them up off the floor...."
I have the conceal surge protector under my desk at home. The first thing I realized when I got it out of the box is that it was a lot larger than I expected! This, however, is necessary if you want to be able to stash a bunch of cords in there. Unfortunately, there are two drawbacks that I've found. First, it isn't big enough to hold some of the larger charger "bricks" (like the one that came with my stupid Dell notebook...). Also, it comes with a huge, awkward cord that is rolled up beside the surge protector since I don't have room to stash it in inside. Despite this, it's still a lot nicer than having everything exposed as on the traditional power strip.
wow... this has made my day.
A while back when I was researching making one of these conceal strip/boxes, I was warned by several people in different DIY sites of fire hazards of having enclosed powerstrip/adaptors.
I suppose Belkin would surely have addressed that in their design. Or I hope, because I'll definitely be buying one and don't want my place to burn.
Heh, "cord-inated." That's awesome.
I had considered getting the "conceal" and mounting it under my desk, but soon figured out that I would have no room left for my knees! So I just got the Compact and turned it so the plain side faces out, it has immensely improved the tidiness of the area under my desk. Totally worth it!
BTW, these things are pretty easy to get at CompUSA, of all places.
