Yaaaaay! This place really is so beautiful. I'm glad it won.
Definitely was a stand-out from Day One! Congratulations, Chris! This design and layout was AMAZING, and so inspiring! :)
Woo hoo! This was my vote! Fantastic layout.
Great job -- congratulations.
Congratulations, Chris! Your apartment plainly demonstrates and that style and function are not exclusive - your use of space if phenomenal. Thanks for sharing it.
This was not my vote, but congratulations nonetheless! This is a nice and creative use of partitioning to make a difficult space work well.
With a little bit of editing, I think this space could be even more fab, and I hope we'll get to see how it evolves in the future!
congrats!!
I was hoping you'd win! Congrats!
I really love the layout and use of space in this one, but all that tan/brown is killing me.
Called it! Congrats!
Excellent choice--so many great areas and yet a cohesive whole in a small space.
yaaay! well deserved....
Yay, I knew he was going to win from the start. I looooooove his apartment. CONGRATULATION
way to represent texas!
Yay!
What was the grand prize anyway?
that ginormous pillow on the couch made it win :p
congrats!
Ahhh!! chris!! So awesome! congrats!
Congrats, Chris! A well deserved win!
Congrats!
Congratulations on your well deserved win! It was such a close call between you and Andrew as both are winners in my eyes.
Well done to all the people who entered, and thanks for sharing. You don't know how much you've all inspired me!
Love your place. Congratulations!!!
What a well deserved win! I was rooting for his space from the get-go. Congrats Chris! :D
Congrats from a fellow-Houstonian! :-)
Congratulations!
I love how there are so many vignettes or sections in your home without it being cluttered. I think that's where the neutral colors come into play. You did a great job here.
My heart is with the apple green duvet though. What a gorgeous color!
go texas!
been voting for you all along the way :)
congrats!
Congrats to winners, and thanks to all participants who were brave and generous to let us look and comment.
Congratulations - furniture Tetris clearly paid off!
Personally, I think the TV projection/curtain/space divider, and being able to watch TV from the living room or the bed, is the secret genius ingredient!
This is a great space. Congrats Chris!
there's not one thing i like about this apartment. i'm mid-century-moderned out
i loved this place. yay
congratulations! really nice layout & great use of space!
Congratulation on super cool apartment, and by the way, where did you get pillows in the living room, it look real good. Thanks for sharing.
I agree, rosaleen. Sorry to rain on the parade, but this was one of my least favourite apartments. Made me think up-scale Ikea and was sort of soul-less.
Stumbled across AT when I googled a DIY a few weeks ago. Fell in love with Chris' apt. Checked it out on Flickr and (unlike me) signed up so I could vote. Well deserved win for decor, space use and photos.
Congratulations Chris! You have an amazing place, the recognition is very well deserved. Have fun in NYC!!
Sincerely,
Your bestead opponents, Jaclyn & Brian

Congrats! Great place.
Congrats! Love the space.
Anyone know where the mat beside his bed is from?
i wish there was a cute animal in one of the pictures.
congrats! this was my favorite place by far.
Thank you everyone for the comments and especially for the incredible support! This was a tough competition with so many differently styled and well-designed spaces that left me feeling nervous at every turn! There really were several insanely cool homes that could have easily been here too. It was this blog and this contest that inspired me to try living small in a city and a state where everything is anything but. So thanks for that and again for the support!
Sam59 - The pillows are West Elm from a few years ago.
KatHord - I think the rug by my bed was a vintage/thrift shop find.
rocketo - the best I can do is my three little cactuses that I keep forgetting to water. they're cute in a weird prickly kind of way.
Well done!!!!
Congratulations, Chris! I voted for you all along the way...
Great job (and I love the Royal Tennenbaums, too).
LOVE it....great design.......and your in HOUSTON TEXAS
Congratulations, Chris, on your win. As half of your final competition (I'm the 1...not the cat), I can say that we are pleased to have lost to you above all other entries. You have a great overall aesthetic and a creative use of space with your projector/screen. You truly have presented a small, cool space. I think it is wonderful that this site provides an opportunity for you - and so many of the other entries - to inspire all of its viewers, including us. Congrats!
Where is that amazing whale print from?
Thanks again everyone for the kind words! Thanks in particular to comments from other contestants, your spaces are really inspirational and will fuel future creative entries for years to come.
merdiff - The print is something I designed a little earlier this year.
So happy someone from my hometown won! Loved this apt from day one because it actually reminds me of the cool, laid back vibe that Houston has.
Chris--
Congrats! Well-deserved. Even if you *did* beat out my client!! :)
Sidenote: There seems to be so much build-up for these contests, then the endings seem fairly understated and antic-climatic. Not sure how it could be any different, just sayin.'
I've just discovered Apartment Therapy and have been obsessing over this space. But how is the picture isn't backwards when you're in bed?
