All right. We get it. Hey, we've been there. In anxious anticipation to relive your childhood, you purchased a dollhouse for your 15-month-old baby girl, right? Only she's made a teething ring out of the dressing room mirror. She's not the one who's ready for the doll house. You are. Where do you put this monstrosity for the next two to three years now that you've gotten it? We recommend using the dollhouse as storage. Better yet? Convert existing storage to a dollhouse.
Both options have dual use for precious square footage in small homes, and allow for the doll house to have a life even after she's outgrown it, because sadly that may happen some day! The shelf-as-house is also a great option for a boy's room if you want to expose him to healthy developmental role play, but don't want the room to feel too "feminine" to the outside eye.
Some of these are from our archives, some are new to us. There are many do-it-yourself options as well as designer samples that have not yet gone into production. Some are available to purchase as-is, no work required! We do hope you find inspiration to suit your needs here.

What a beautiful way to use a dollhouse! When I was a child I begged and pleaded my parents for a dollhouse. Anticipating that this was a passing phase, they built me a dollhouse that could later be converted to a bookshelf. Little did they know that the dollhouse would spark a passion in me that later became my career (as an interior designer). I owe it all to that dollhouse... which never did become a bookshelf!
Brilliant
Egads! That first picture is gorgeous! I'm chuckling at this because I'm 24 weeks pregnant and stood longingly gazing at a dollhouse for at least 15 minutes the other day. I resisted the urge to buy it, but it was not easy!
I still have the beautiful dollhouse my dad bought be when I was 5! Now I can put it to use.
frontporchpirate I did that too! And now seeing all these doll houses is making me crazy because even though I have 2 girls, I know I will be selfish with it a doll house demanding that its MINE! Not fair that my sister got one and I didn't!
