- Inspiration for my palette:
- I was inspired by the bright and airy feel of our 1936 bungalow and the delicious morning sun that fills the dining room. Benjamin Moore Hawthorne Yellow and Linen white are soft but eye-catching on the walls, and the DIY buffet is painted Martha Stewart Hummingbird Blue to mirror the vintage appeal of the mason jar fixture.
- Colors used in my room
- Yellow, white, turquoise, pink
- Tips for using color successfully
- Have a palette in mind, but don't settle for anything that "matches." Be selective and wait for the item that not only works with the palette, but fits with the mood and style you want to convey.

Ercol Bar Stool
The Chandelier is not something I would go for and I don't think it goes well in this room; but that's my personal opinion.
The plastic over the fabric on the chairs reminds me of the 60's. Not a favorite look.
Overall I think the choice of colors go really well together. Kudos on the great paint job with those stripes and nice turquoise buffet. Fill the decanter unless it's just for show.
Super cute room! I love how bright and fresh it feels!
I love it all including the chandelier! It's got my vote!
I love all of it! I feel like your mood would increase dramatically just walking through the room!
LyonStill must not have children. The plastic seat covers are perfect for a family dining area! What a wonderful use of color! Adorable room!
I love the brightly colored buffet, the striped walls and the lighting fixture. Definitely simple, clean and fun. Super cute room!
LOVE this room! I want to live here!
Really charming. Love the color combination.
This room made me happy. I love the mason jars and the buffet. I agree that the plastic on the chairs makes them kid friendly.
Never Trust a Big Butt and a Smile - Don't assume...I do have children. Plastic on chairs may be practical but try sitting on them in shorts on a hot summer's night. Plus, I think they look (no offense) tacky.
I actually have fabric chairs with scotch guard. There's a way around plastic...
I love everything except the chandelier. Which isn't bad, just NMS.
I love everything about this room! It just looks so colorful and clean.
Wearing shorts to dinner is tacky. Plastic is practical.
Love this! I never would have noticed that the chair covering was plastic if not for the close up photo. I think that makes it the best of both worlds in that it looks nice and it's grubby-hand proof. Awesome. Love the stripes, the cheerful colors and that buffet is to die for. Great job!
This room just puts me in a good mood!
Boo, I am not able to add this room to favorites!!
Lyonstill I always enjoy reading your comments. I do agree with you in that the plastic looks tacky. I also agree with you on the decantur, even if it is just for show, fill it up with something. I do love the yellow & white stripes, I also love the blue credenza or buffet (whatever you want to call it).
It is absolutely spectacular! So peaceful and charming. The buffet is beautiful, the mirror above it adds depth and light, and the plastic on the chairs is both practical and it gives them a retro feel. LOVE IT!
Help! I love this room but can't see where I'm supposed to "favorite" it :(
I'm logged in (obviously), but all I see are a bunch of things telling me to "favorite it below!"... only there's nothing remotely favorite-able below. Can someone tell me what I should be looking for??
I like the buffet.the color is super
Thank you everybody for your comments! I'm so excited to see my dining room on AT.
Regarding the plastic chairs, obviously vinyl seats are nobody's first choice, but with an almost two-year-old and another on the way, they're the most sustainable and sanitary choice. And the sheen of plastic can be removed later, whereas laminated cotton can't. It's a compromise I'm willing to accept in the baby years!
That buffet/wine rack is unique and beautiful. I love this room.
Crazily enough..the plastic chair covers add to the charm for me..whimsy...My fav colors and it's fun and happy andddd practical..way to go mom!
The fabric on your chairs is the same fabric in my mum's sewing room! I love that fabric designer! I also love your style! Especially the dining room lights!
I love your dining chairs, paired with a vintage table. Love, love the sideboard!
Great job.
There is a lot that I love about this room, but it's mostly the teal credenza. I really wish I had room for something like that at my house. Excellent use of color - I think the standard in the "light" category seems to be all-white rooms which, while the look pretty, just don't seem livable to me. Good job.
i really enjoy the color scheme. enjoy the warm feeling. a great place to start the morning with breakfast and great conversations. i like the funky glass jar looking lighting.
