When we think of copper we may picture those gorgeous and highly praised copper pots and pans. Or we may even think of copper in its oxidized forms, as on the awnings of old railway stations or historic buildings, for example. Perhaps that is why this copper orb light fixture is so surprising and fun.
These copper globes (most likely all by Tom Dixon - his design in the copper finish is becoming a modern classic) are a refreshing alternative to the silver and steel lighting so popular in today's pendant and hanging lights.

I love the copper ~ very cool!
How much light does a fixture like this actually give off? It looks like it would be incredibly limited and only shine down in a small circle. All the pictures are lit with natural light and it doesn't seem like the lights themselves are on. These are beautiful, but are they practical at all?
*Gasp* I love it. Particularly in a room with a moody wall color like a deep navy or smoky gray.
I see these and, lovely as they are in those pictures, imagine myself after several months balancing on a chair with a salt shaker and wedge of lemon trying to get them back to their original brilliance.
Love them, but aren't they like $1,000 each?
Uhm, no. I'm sorry but those are really ugly!
they're beautiful but would be a huge pain to polish. and that would have to be done often.
Oh, I love these. There's no way they would stay polished, so you'd have to buy them with the intent that they would quickly develop that lovely green blue patina. I think they'd give off limited light (as others have pointed out), but you could use a bright bulb in a small space or as a spotlight on a table.
lovely! but that table in the first photo - even lovelier!
I love the warmth of the copper tones combined with the glam of the polished finish!! also, I think they are coated so they will maintain their shine!
thanks for link to my blog!

I absolutely love the Tom Dixon ones but I feel like he gets a lot of the credit that belongs to Roberto Menghi who designed the Globo di Luce pendant back in 1968. (Check it out at dwr.com). I didn't know anything about him until I picked up 2 shells of old pendants (no lights, just the globe) at the DWR outlet in Secaucus NJ for $20 each! Still haven't decided what to do with them. Might just hang them on the wall as art.
