Well, it is kind of adorable. But I wouldn't want to sleep on that side of the bed. The shelf is too high to use as a nightstand - I like to be able to grab my bottle of water or slap my snooze button without sitting up and stretching - and the shelf makes it hard to get to the vintage nightstand or put anything tall (like a bottle on it).
Although they could solve both those problems by getting a higher bed, I suppose.
cedargr0, another solutions would have been to build in a low bedside platform as they did in the other side of the bed -- but then the fancy little night stand wouldn't have fit in that spot. It would be more pragmatic, though.
i don't like it.
it just doesn't 'mesh' to me.
I have to agree with the comments above. It's just not practical to have to reach around the shelf to get to whatever is on the little dresser.
What I saw when I first looked at the picture was a desk/console/nightstand. Cool.
Upon closer inspection, I realized it is too narrow to be a desk. It it too high to be a nightstand. Other than the orange and the fact that the whole (oddly proportioned) thing is built in, I don't know what makes this special. It creates as many problems as it solves.
And every issue I have with this configuration could have been resolved at the design/planning stage.
Impractical and uncomfortable.
Ha! Someone just told me that my apartment is on apartment therapy... too funny. I bought this apartment 8 months ago from the person who did this renovation. The brick/pink color didn't really work for us, so we repainted:

The shape is actually not so impractical as people think. the right side is a nice little bedside table. The left side is good for plants, and the nightstand is easily accessible underneath it. Now that it's white it just vanishes into the rest of the architecture. And by the way, nice job Bruno! I never knew who had done this renovation originally.
