Name: Cordelia (newborn)
Location: Visalia, California
When my sister called me to tell me she was pregnant she did it by asking me, "Do you think you'd have time in the next nine months or so to come decorate a room in my house?" Of course I gave her an exuberant YES! My sister and Brother-in-law love camping and hiking, we wanted to bring that into the nursery without being too "woodland" or cutesy. I came up with a National Parks inspired nursery that will transition with Cordelia as she grows.
The room was truly a collaboration by the whole family. His mother had been collecting stuffed animals from National Parks across the country ever since they got married. Our Aunt made and remade the Cordelia banner (when the first one turned out to be too long). Aside from the National Parks prints from the Anderson design group, the rest of the art in the room was made by Cordelia's dad, my mom and myself.
My father and I built the tree shelf out of 1x6 boards and it is anchored onto the wall extremely well in case Cordelia turns out to be a climber (we are all hoping she will not be). The bedding was made by my Aunt and me, the mobile was a group project, and my sister made the adorable arrows. We found the oar in my parents barn and painted it in fun vibrant colors.
I chose the green rug from IKEA to give the feeling of a grassy meadow floor The feature wall, painted in Behr's Tree Fern, has wooden stripes stained a weathered gray in varying widths to keep the wall from being too rustic and a bit more modern and fresh. The rest of the walls are painted Behr's Dolphin Fin. As a fun touch I painted a mountain skyline in the closet, when Cordelia is older and her clothes cover it one of the shelves can be removed and it will be her secret nook.
