For many creative people, having a place to hang up images and ideas in real life rather than keeping everything online is a must, but hanging a cork board is not always ideal. Putting up a cork board can be damaging to a wall and when it it is time to change things around, it can be a pain to move. That's why I love this simple idea from French costumière Carole Birling.
I've seen string used as a place to clip images before, but the way she uses color both with the string and the clips adds a charming twist to this easy idea.

Sheex Bedding
This is like an analogue version of Pinterest. Very cool new concept. ;-)
As a very non-DIY person, I was wondering how I am supposed to hold the string in place if I want to do something similar. Simply tying the string to a nail, or is there a better way to go? Thanks :)
I don't understand how this is a "new" idea! We artists, especially us photographers & collage artists, have been doing this for years! It's not a new idea! If your wall will take them use push pins. Or, you can tap in a few penny nails. I've got a string running around the top of my bathroom walls which holds a collection of old beach resort post cards & some gull feathers to go with the ocean theme of the bathroom. Acts as a "border", but is more functional as I can add or change the display at whim. I use little colorful plastic clothes pins that I've had forever to hold the stuff. I also have a little "installation" hanging in my laundry room. A few feet of haphazardly strung color string adorned with little antique doll clothes pegged with the plastic pins. A few little paper mache birds sitting on the lines... so cute to brighten up my windowless laundry room!
@ECUADORIANA1, your laundry sounds awesome. do you have any pics?
i'm a fan of the old dignitet system myself...
