Colorful penny tiles have been on our future-home-dream-list for years, but now they have competition: wine cork tiles. Jelinek Cork Group makes the flooring from recycled wine corks, combining two loves &mdash wine and décor.
There's something about cork that's just so natural. We love it when it's added to an otherwise fancy room for some grunge-vs.-glamour contrast.
We like the the cork flooring with the white grout best, but there's also the clear option. Corks can be stained any color, as well, as in the photo of the blue pattern on the flooring.

i luved that domino pic too the first time i saw it! i still love penny tiles best though, especially black with black grout.
my first thought on seeing the white grouted corks is - how the hell would you clean this? i'm such a spoilsport, all function, no fun!

Love the pics of it as flooring - the corks give it a fun, whimsical shape. I have to agree with the polish chick though as far as cleaning is concerned. Would not want to take on that responsibility... although the clear top coat in the 4th picture looks quite protective and smooth... and easy to clean?! We put this in our kitchen and it's easily sweep-able. You put a coat of polyurethane over it after staining and grouting so the grouted areas aren't that much below the tops of the cork slices.
whew! $20 per tile. steep.
