When you have family living all across the country it can sometimes be hard for little ones to understand exactly where they are. We love this cork creation that gives them a visually stunning representation of where family lives.

Autumn of design*dump was looking for a way to help her family keep tabs on loved ones and places they've visited over the years so she turned to her sister-in-law Nicole for help with the execution. Now we've met Autumn before when she shared her daughter's pink and navy nursery with us so we weren't at all surprised how well this project turned out.
The map is made from layers of cork which can be purchased from your local craft stores in small rolls. It allows the family to place names of family members in the approximate area where they live and eventually it will hold photographs and more.
If you want to try your hand at making one at home, we highly suggest rolling out your cork and flattening it for several days before working with it. It's rather compliant with assorted glues, but if there's any sort of curve left in it, it's like wrangling a wet weasel. We love the idea and think it's a chic way to present this sort of information in your home.

wow, this is brillant!
Lovely. Very clever.
Love this idea! We have family all across the US too and I've been looking for ways to keep the little one involved in who they are so they grow up understanding and knowing about their extende family. We've asked members of our immediate family to send us photos of their homes. I'm planning on making small felt stuffed versions of each house to place on a shelf in the babies room. As they get older, I hope to use it as a leet of toys to talk about who will be visitng and as a way for them to get to know their family in a fun small way.
This is just amazing! I am in awe of the person who made it.
