aaron, I am surprised that you like the 3 cushion sofa better. As I was looking at them, my thought was how much cleaner the lines of the sofa are with the single cushion.

Anybody have any idea about the quality of the Macy's piece? I had nearly talked my husband into the Bantam a couple of months ago but just couldn't talk him into the price. I saw the Macy's piece in a catalog but didn't realize just how close it was to the Bantam until I saw them side by side in this post. I'm sure my husband would go for the Macy's version, but I don't want to spend $700 on something that's going to fall apart in a year...

I actually went to check this sofa out on Sunday. It wasn't bad in person, but I didn't like how the seat cushions got sort of messed up when you sat on them. If you're sitting on one cushion, the one next to you is not level with the one you're sitting down on. Which I guess would be common among sofas with multiple cushions, but I feel as though I haven't noticed this in other sofas (at least not as much as I noticed it on this one). Also, upon getting up, I noticed all the cushions need to be straightened out a bit. Perhaps if the cushions were in some way attached to the base? Nothing horrible of course, but just two minor issues I had.

Oh, and the fabric seems as though it would get snagged a lot.

Otherwise, it was pretty comfortable. Not as nice as some other similar sofas I've looked at, but, considering the price, it's a pretty good deal.

I agree that the Macy's one look very much like the DWR one, BUT I have to say I'm not a fan of 3-cushion sofas. If only 2 people are sitting on it it seems like you're always sliding into the cushion cleavage and it makes it very hard to sit side by side for some good cuddle time. I also prefer the cleaner lines of a single or 2 cushion sofa. But then again...it is all about personal preference. I'm very happy that Mary loves her new sofa and I hope it gives her many evenings of happy lounging!

Mason - I am often torn between single/multiple cushions on sofas. I worry that inferior single-cushion models will become uneven over time. I find it much easier to reshape smaller cushions for upkeep. I have no experience to back this up...just an inkling of suspicion. I don't think it's a problem for small loveseats, but when you start having a single cushion that is over 80 inches long it worries me!

I'm using this sofa in the client consultation area of my photo studio. Form was more important than function to me in the decision making process. Although, the quality is higher than what you would expect for the price (it has hard wood guts). The lines are not as nice as the DWR sofa, but for the price of Bantam I was able to get a sofa, love seat, shag carpet and Noguchi (ish) coffee table. :)

I've had the Corona sofa from Macy's for a few weeks now. While I prefer the one cusion version from DWR, you can't beat the price on the Macy's sofa.
My review:
Super comfy - both the cushions and the fabric (I had a great nap on Saturday)
Haven't had any problems with the fabric snagging - don't really think it will be an issue
The cushions do mess a bit, but it's not too bad

Hmm, my big concern is being able to flip cushions in the event of spillage, stains, cat puke, etc. - that's why I immediately preferred the 3-cushion as well!

I actually like the 3-cushion better its the line of the arms i'm not crazy about, but for that price...can't beat it!

I personally hate the multiple cushions bcs they always seem to have individual lives. They never seem to behave the same, one always stays at a different level from the others... But then again, I never had spillage or cats, not that I could be able to live peacefully knowing I have a stain on my sofa. Just take the cushion out and wash....

I've got to express how great I think Macy's sofa quality is--I mean, this is a generalization, since I only own one, but I went everywhere looking for a clean-lined but slipcovered and cozy sofa. I also wanted down cushions but that put most everything I looked at in the 3K range, which was not in my budget.

I was shocked to find exactly what I was looking for at Macy's, slipcovered, beautiful lines, kiln-dried frame, and down cushions, for under $1500 (after tax and delivery, which, BTW, happened just 3 days later). The sofa is a year and a half old and has held up beautifully. With the quality and the customer service, I have to highly recommend Macy's for sofas.

I thought DWR's Bantam sofa was very cool-looking in photos... and then I saw the real thing in a store. The top horizontal seam/edge of the seat (where your inside knees would be if you were sitting on it) is always all messed up and wavy... it's not very well made I don't think. The seam itself seems to be easily pulled away from the corner/edge of the seat cushion, so it looks sloppy and misaligned. For a $1700 sofa it ends up looking kind of cheap. Maybe that's partly because so many people sit on them in the stores, but I would be wary.
The best version of this kind of sofa I've seen around is from Skypad, a Canadian company. They were selling them at ABC for a while, for $1500... it was very sleek and Florence-Knoll-esque. ABC doesn't carry them any more but maybe somewhere else in NYC...?

Re: sofa cushions--when we bought our (2-cushion) sofa from Storehouse a few years ago, the saleswoman said that you should regularly pick up the bottom cushions and sort of bounce them on their ends, like how you would fluff up a smaller pillow. Also, you should rotate them around and flip them over every so often to even out the wear. I've done this and I think it does help.

FYI, the DWR Annex in Seacaucus is filled with Bantams right now. Not the returned, unusable ones either. Under $1K, too.

I'll offer my review of the Bantam sofa. I've had mine for a few months, and I absolutely love it. It is super comfortable, plus the proportions are correct for me. That is, I don't feel like I have to slouch or need longer legs to fit. The top of the seat cushion isn't wavy (like the one somebody saw in the store), but the upholstery isn't tight, either. If I were a perfectionist, I'd be smoothing it out constantly, but as I'm not, I just think it looks comfy.

Oh, but how I love my Bantam. We have the long one, and though it was pricey, it is such a nice, clean looking davenport. Esp. in "sage" which adds to it's very mod vertical nature. It looks great w/ my vintage Danish Modern pieces. (I did have the legs stripped and stained a medium oak so as to work better w/ my rosewood end tables.)

Gus Modern has two sofa's like those too. The Rochelle and the Jane Sofa. They are beautiful!

Well, that's exactly why I would buy it!

My vote is still for the Bantam Sofa because of it's (noticeably) cleaner lines and more pronounced details... and as we all know it's the details that make the difference.

The price on the Corona isn't too bad but knowing that you compromised on the specific look/detail you like for a few bucks isn't worth it... unless you plan on changing it in a year, then go for the deal. :)

I purchased a DWR Bantam sofa a couple years ago and it still looks good. I prefer the one cushion style as it looks cleaner (I have the 73" size). My only gripe is the fabric (cotton with no stain guard). Clean friends are a must with this one.

I'm chiming in with my approval of the Bantam sofa. Like some of DWR's other pieces, it actually looks better in person than it does in photographs.

When I first saw the Bantam in a DWR showroom, I was reminded greatly of a very beautiful, very well made suit--the sort of item that will never, ever go out of style. The detailing was exquisite.

I like the Dick Van Dyke reference, but to me, the Bantam was the personification of JFK.

The Bantam is priced extremely reasonably as far as such furnishings go--I don't know why one would ever bother with the risk of a bad knockoff.

i'm not having trouble with my cushions popping up. velcro, maybe? do you mean while sitting on it, gillfield, or when exiting?

we bought the sofa and loveseat a couple months ago and we love it. we have a large dog and she seems to love it too. she only puts off a little bit of hair, but even with the chocolate-colored couch, i never have a problem with it sticking. we also don't have the problem with the cushions popping up. so far, we're really happy with our purchase and would recommend it.

I have the corona sofa in cafe noir (it's darker than the online photo) and I LURVE it! The fabric is phenominal. The cushions move a bit yes, but not a biggie. I'm super happy that I got this couch for $699. =)

I have been searching for furniture for months and I have had the corona on my list since the beginning. While I like the DWR sofa the single cushion is a little too sleek and modern. The three cushions of the corona actually warm the sofa up. The lines are still clean but not cold like some of the DWR pieces. Anyway I was in Macys yesterday and found the corona sofa and chair on super sale. Sofa was 539.00 and the chair 419.00 plus opened an acount and got an extra 10% off. Can't wait for it to be delivered

Macy's in Scottsdale AZ, the associate at Macy's led us to duplicate floor model that they received and had to get rid of.

We just bought the chair...mainly because the similar ones from R&B and C&B don't have removable legs. VERY good value!

I had this sofa delivered three days ago........Where do I begin
At first I thought it seemed a little different, I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Then I wondered why the cushions seemed so much more firm(ok they are new) My feet didn't quite reach the floor but they did in the the store quite nicely too. This caused me to be tilted back in an uncomfortabe position. The three cusions protruded out beyond the edge of the sofa making the actual depth of the sofa nearly 40". In my space, every inch matters and I am sure it was not advertised to be this size and the height is an inch or so shorter(a plus).The cushions themselves are quite comfy(more puffy than I think acceptabe for the style, but again, new. It does require regular touching up to make it look as crisp as the style dictates.(2 cushions would be an improvement)The end seats have a little point in the corners so all 3 are not quite interchangable. The 'horizon' on the back seat of the couch is a little wavy and the cushions are a little lumpy looking. Just the facts.... I still think a very cool sofa for the money. But you get what you pay for. Mine has a fabric defect on the front frame and, well, that has made up MY mind. You should go to the store, keep it in perspective, ...Me, I'm making the treck into Soho to look at spending a little more for something I'll be happy with everyday. Room & Board has loveseats with this style that have seat lengths & prices very comparable. Really!

This is actually a question. I am planning on buying this couch and I am looking for two swivel chairs to place across from it. I want them to be swivel so that people can turn towards the tv is necessary, but no all the time. All of the swivel chairs I've looked up don't seem to go with mid-cent. furniture. Any suggestions..I'm at the end of my rope.

i just visited macy's today and bought the corona in dark brown. it's on sale for $699 and i got another $100 off for opening a macy's account. in person, the fabric looked like it will hold up pretty well and resist snags and pilling (the floor model was in the pistachio color and had been on the floor for over a year and had no snags and barely showed dirt). i wasn't in the market for my "forever" sofa, just something with a nice design and good enough quality to get me through the next few years before i upgrade. i opened the cushions and looked at the foam - it's decent, not the best, can easily be replaced with better grade foam/batting if need be. this sofa seemed to be better quality than the crate and barrel sofas i visited, and at $599, i couldn't pass it up. lastly, in response to the above post, yes the legs are removable.

Because not everyone has $1800-$2000 to spend on a couch, unfortunately. Lucky you that you'll never have to experience what in your opinion is "a bad knockoff", Bruised, the rest of us will enjoy our reasonably priced (or cheap, if you will) Corona couches... and chairs because we'll actually be able to afford those, too!

I am however, after many years looking at the Bantam because of it's assumed better quality?? We are at a point were we would spend more to get something that will last but I am not happy with what I am hearing on either sofa. Are there any others out there that are single cushion with very similar lines and excellent quality under 2000? I need two! Ouch. However we are furnishing for the first time (after many years of "college style" living) and like to have it for the long haul. I want quality and want to be able to clean it & have it keep it's shape. Am I asking for two much. I have a friend who just inherited a couch of similar design with a caned back rest and the cushion still looks great. Why can't we get this quality now? It's velvet ice gray. Beautiful and well used.

I'd like to resurrect this discussion since it seems like so many people have the Corona sofa now. I have the pear color and love it, but am having a hard time deciding on a color for the walls that will work with this green. I don't want to paint anything too dark or too intense. And anyone come up with a color combo that is really working for them? I'm thinking maybe something quite neutral, then perhaps an accent wall in a very soft green, but I'm not sure if that will be a lot of green. Any opinions would be really appreciated!

faycat, hi. I can't help you with the color choices (though I like the options in the macy's photos of dark brown walls or a cream wallpaper).

But I'm wondering if you've had a problem with water marks on your sofa. Some of the reviews on the Macy's site say you can't do any cleaning of the cushions or drip any water on the fabric because it leaves a mark. I want to buy the corona but this sounds scary...

Its interesting because the photos of the corona sofa don't really do it justice. Its such a long sofa that you don't notice the three cushions quite as much in person. Plus when i went to see the R and B sofa in person, I hated it because the cushion was all worn down. For a floor model of a sofa at that price, the cushions should not need to be upgraded

It's really similar to C&B's Petrie, with tufted seat and back cushions and only 2 seat cushions. Has anyone test driven the Lenny yet? I see only one review on Macy's website.

This is a great looking couch, however I really cannot recommend it. I've had one for about a year and a half now, and the quality is not good. It is sturdy and the fabric holds up well, however the internal springs wore out quickly (a few months). The couch now sags in the middle and is not very comfortable. Also the couch is too narrow to allow my gf and I to comfortably both watch TV on it. Surprisingly her Ikea couch is much more comfortable and has held up much better (I've always been skeptical of their couches quality). Buyer beware unless you are a single woman who weighs less then 110 pounds!

ScottMiami, I have to ask...how tall are you and your girlfriend? We sat on the Corona at Macy's and found it to be exceptionally spacious for both of us, though I'm short and hubby is quite tall. As for narrowness, I surmise that you must be very tall people for it to not seat you comfortably. Was this not apparent when you sat on it in the store?

Does anyone out there know who manufacturers the Corona Sofa from macys???? I looked at it and didn't think it would last to long. then i found something very similiar at a place called boston interiors. the one at Boston Interiors costs about the same as the one in macys and is made by mark home. I would go to the BI store, but that would mean a 6 hour drive...

I, too, have been considering the Corona sofa but have been a little taken aback by some of the negative reviews here and on the Macy's site. I'm also not looking for my 'forever' sofa, but I'd rather not spend several hundred dollars on something that isn't going to hold up.

I recently found Customsofadesign.com, a company in the business of making knock-offs, as far as I can tell. Their prices seem pretty reasonable and they make a few sofas with comparable lines to the Corona, i.e., see the 'Brussels' http://customsofadesign.com/styles.php?s=brussels , the 'Cynthia' (two-cushion version for the minimalists out there) http://customsofadesign.com/styles.php?s=cynthia , and the 'Paramount' http://www.customsofadesign.com/styles.php?s=parama ... okay, I could go on and on. These are all considerably <$1000, depending on the fabric you select. Yes, they offer multiple fabric choices at different prices.
I've been wondering if their quality is any different from the Macy's sofa and if it would be worth paying the shipping (they quoted me $300 to ship to the mid-west from their store in L.A.), but I haven't found anyone with experience dealing with them yet.
