Nacho Libre
aka: J (almost 2)
location: Mesa, AZ
age group: toddler
difficulty level: semi-easy
materials: A couple different fabrics, beads, red lacing, pom pom fringe, colored duct tape, and of course tights & new shoes, and colored hair spray
description: I am no seamstress, so this was a pretty easy sew on the machine! For the cape I'd found a pattern online somewhere & modified as needed. It was easy to sew and the embellishments I added by hand. For the red "pants" I traced the shape of a pair of little boy underwear and also modified as needed, making sure to measure & fit to my little guy's size. I purchased the tights from a dance clothing website, We Love Colors, who have a wide selection of colors & sizes. To finish it off we bought some red Chucks, red duct tape (for the knees) and brown hair spray, and voilà, we had our "Nacho!"
Thanks Erin!

Draco Malfoy
aka: Jakson (2)
location: Pleasant Grove, UT
age group: toddler
difficulty level: semi-easy
materials: yarn for scarf, old black witches costume from a thrift shop that I cut down the middle and hemmed to create a "cloak", felt and embroidery thread to make "Weasley is our king" badge, onesie, I appliqued a tie in Slytherin colors on the front, lots of hair gel!
description: I made the scarf on a loom (very easy!!) I don't actually know how to do any real knitting. See my blog, Vermillion Rules, for more on how I made the costume.
Thanks Beth!

Ghostbuster
aka: Lucas (5)
location: Cheshire, CT
age group: child
difficulty level: not especially easy (but worth it!)
materials: Suit: just a pair of khakis with a button down shirt. the iron-on "no Ghosts" patch was found online, the name tag was just black fabric with red puffy paint.
Goggles: safety goggles with PCV fittings.
Proton Pack: plastic painters tray, flower pot catch tray, red LEDs, pneumatic tubing, switch box, lots of trips to home depot.
description: Based on a combination of other people's tutorials and lots of watching of "The Real Ghostbusters" cartoon. See more photos of Lucas in costume here!
Thanks Jennifer!

Yoda
aka: Jamie (4 months)
location: Seattle, WA
age group: infant
difficulty level: semi-easy
materials: green wool yarn, elmer's glue, old motheaten wool scarf, self-belt from mom's tunic sweater, model's own onesie and pants.
description: I showed my husband a knitting/felting pattern for the Yoda hat when I was just a few weeks pregnant, and he decreed that our baby must be Yoda for his first Halloween. The pattern knit up fairly quickly. I felted it in the washing machine, and saturated the ears with an elmer's glue/water mix to stiffen them, clipped them to a pants hanger to dry so they stuck out straight. Yoda's robe is made from an old scarf I found in the back of the closet. I folded it in half and used some packing tape to join part of one side to create a hood, then wrapped him in the ends and used a brown sweater belt to tie him up.
Thanks Anne!
