The family that commissioned this summer cottage at Buckleton Bay in Matakana, New Zealand enjoyed the open plan and amazing views so much they moved in permanently!
Architects Peter Eising and Lucy Gauntlett of Pacific Environments used large sliding glass doors and a poured concrete floor to make the most of the locale and seaside air. The generous overhang of the roof and concrete floors (with drainage) allow the home to be open to the elements.

Nomade Express Slee...
OMGGGGGah! I would never want a TV in a house like this!!! My dream home!
I like the "drunken poles" theme that runs through the house, but I wish they'd painted them a subtler colour than fire-engine red.
This makes me want to cry..I need a vacation and to stay here..
As if the house isn't gorgeous enough, that view just sends it over the edge. I'm so in love!
I WANT TO GO TO THERE.
I second b77's comment. I was just lifting a tissue to my eye when I read it. Beam me there Scotty!
Summer "cottage" hahahahaha
Beautiful views :)
As a kiwi who rebels against this kind of ostentatious architecture (I consider it completely soulless, although beautiful), I find myself wondering what this is doing on AT. It's huuuuuuugggee (trust me, I've seen it in RL). The thing that disappoints me the most, however, is this is pretty much the epitome of NZ bach/beach house design.
Oh, and @LauraInCancun - I'm not kidding when I tell you that this is pretty common in these parts when it comes to holiday homes. All you have to do is look at where I used to live - filled with million dollar homes looking out on million dollar views and they're only occupied a month out of the year.
