I'm a big fan of vintage army blankets, which you can usually find for under $50. They're small but really thick and warm. We have a WW2 Italian one that we love.
Homegoods my go-to source for plain bedding like this... the selection can be limited & you won't find your same items a few months (or weeks) later, but always has great prices.
Anyone know of any places that sell blankets (at a reasonable price) that come in stronger or brighter colors? It seems like most blankets on the market are pastel-colored or some shade of oatmeal or white.
#4 - i love these blankets. They remind me of the blankets that they use in hospitals. Lol, hospitals are not exactly homey, but I always enjoyed the comfort of crisp sheets and a warm blanket provides when stuck in the hospital.
@chusmabilly: Haha, I absolutely understand what you mean. I work at a clinic and we have hospital linens delivered here, and I just love the unbleached cotton, blankets. Really basic and unpretentious.
SLOWDOWN: You might check out The Company Store for a better variety of colors. Be sure to check out their clearance section, too.

YES! I can't wait to bust out my collection of vintage quilts, though I might need to pick up some additional basics, like these...thanks for posting.

I checked out that white ikea blanket this weekend. It's a bit too rough for my taste. I was disappointed.
Are cotton blankets that warm? I've always gone for wool.
I've read some wool blankets FAQ (wool blankets) and I still am unsure about somethings. At least now that you gave me some for under $50 my investment won't be too bad if it goes wrong. :)
