Q: I'm wanting to put a mirrored ceiling medallion in my foyer. I like the one pictured but it's a wall mirror. How would you go about changing a round wall mirror into a ceiling medallion and how would you mount it?

If it's not too heavy you could use construction adhesive. Maybe a glass and mirror place would drill a hole for you.
Heavy objects and ceilings usually lead me to call in the pros, but I am kinda funny about heavy things falling on my head. I also kinda suck at diy.
If you like how it looks why not? Mount with some really good velcro if it's not super heavy. That stuff is amazing.
If the mirror is wood you could use L-Brackets painted the shade of the mirrors edges. Drill/Screw them into the ceiling first facing in, then place the mirror and place screws into the sides.
I love this idea by the way! I may have to do it too!
I would label that as a safety hazard. I personally would rather find something similar if possible that is actually a ceiling medallion. The mirror shown was designed to be hung vertically on a wall.
If you decide to go this route, DEFINITELY secure it as best as possible to the ceiling joist.
Brilliant idea! I think it will be stunning; go for it!
I like the idea of a mirror as a ceiling medallion. I was looking how to make a medallion myself yesterday because I have a new fixture I'm putting up that has an oval mount. No medallion I can find would fit it, so I'll have to go custom. If you didn't use a full mirror, you could take a regular medallion and put mirrors on it. A regular mirror would take some serious drilling. I would take it to a glass place. Mounting it would mean some heavy duty calking glue!
You could try using carnival mirror (the kind that are used for funhouses). It's a lightweight sheet of aluminum-like metal that you can cut into any shape you want. (It only gives a distorted image if you bend it to be convex or concave.) It weighs about the same as a piece of cardboard, so even if it fell, it wouldn't hurt you.
Have your glass store bore a hole the size of your ceiling box. Use some Loctite to hold the mirror in place. When you mount your light's canopy, the canopy will be larger than the ceiling box which will further support the mirror.
You've given me a lot to think about. Thanks so much
