From the moment we heard about this top-rated inn located in the depths of Tennessee's Great Smoky Mountains, we could not get enough. Purchased by the Beall Family in 1975, Blackberry Farm started out as a 9 bedroom home where family and friends often gathered but it soon transformed into a family-run inn. Fully decorated by Kreis Beall, she turned an otherwise dilapidated barn into one of the top small hotels in the United States.
As a working farm, this inn is also praised for their outstanding group of farmers and chefs, led by the Beall's son, Sam. Following the farm-to-table food movement, the chef can never be sure of each nights menu until he "walks through the garden, goes foraging, fishing or hunting; and cooks what is". The farm also offers a variety of events each month. Topics on music, the arts, family, health and culinary interests are all covered. This February, the farm hosts Oregon's top truffle experts to share their knowledge of cultivating and harvesting. Interested in learning more or taking a once in a lifetime vacation? Awww! Makes me miss my native Tennessee. But I could never afford to even eat there, much less stay in the hotel... oh well.
I looked into visiting this inn a while back when it was mentioned in Bon Appetit, but found it to be - ahem - cost-prohibitive. Very lovely, though.
Would be such a dream to stay here, good for a honeymoon perhaps?
restored rustic barns = happiness.
File this one under "Things that sound nice, but most people can't afford." I thought only the New York Times Travel section publicized travel destinations like this.

oh yes! had dinner here with my in-laws last year. (you don't have to be staying at the inn to dine there). Truly amazing is all i can say. if you are ever in the area, fork over the dough and make a reservation. i promise, you won't be disappointed.
The rates do include meals but don't include alcohol. Kind of like a cruise. I's insanely expensive, gorgeous, and relaxinglike nothing else.
Too bad these folks who advertise themselves as stewards of country living are destroying the nature of their property by building three cul-de-sacs with 21 houses for sale. NC has been ruined with suburban development, I guess TN is next.
Wow, I had very nearly committed to meeting a friend there and she neglected to tell me just how expen$ive it is (and I hadn't yet done any research), thanks for saving me a bundle and a red-face! Nothing I can't get, and closer to home, for much less...
I'm all about exploring the places closer to home these days and I'm having a terrific time on my local trips.
