Retro Modern Camping: Rechargeable Lantern

We've had a lot of impromptu picnics this summer and have all but given up on outdoor candles. They either keep blowing out, getting knocked over by a dog, or don't last until dessert. So we started researching rechargeable lamps and were excited to find Coleman's new CPX 6 lantern with its familiar kerosene-style charm but simple, updated look.

Something about Coleman products remind us of camping with grandpa — whether it's the memories of red kerosene lamps, or those metal-ribbed coolers that used to hold pb&j sandwiches (and Schlitz I think). Coleman's new vintage-looking CPX 6 lantern has a single black knob in front, a sunny yellow rubber-coated handle, and no more visible features than that. But the rechargeable LED light inside is dimmable (from Ultra-Low to High) and stays lit for as many as 25 hours without recharging. Even the $35 price takes us back to the old days.

The lantern is available from Coleman for $35 and $25 for the battery pack.
