Looking at brightly colored candy boxes can be nostalgic. Halloween, prizes at camp... going to the movies. These are all events that involve candy and our childhood. So, imagine our delight when we stumbled upon these DIY candy box magnets...

Says the creator, "Some of these are cultural icons, others are silly modern wonders of neo-retro design. You may even have your own little collection of interesting little containers in the form of left-over little boxes of candy from Halloween. What can you do with all these things? Make them into an awesome array of fridge magnets!"
For a clean cut, open the boxes with a blade. Use a gluegun to glue some beans (or other heavy objects) to the bottom of the box, then fill the rest of the box up with beans, so that when you shake the magnet it sounds like real candy. For complete constructions click here.

Once upon a time I told my family and friends that if they had to buy me souvenirs, to buy me fridge magnets or christmas ornaments. I now have a collection of magnets from around the country and the world so large that I have to rotate them. I absolutely love them. And my Christmas ornament collection is pretty good too.
The only continent I don't have one from is Antarctica and my brother promises me I will have one soon.
Sorry to nitpick, but these aren't just candy boxes; a few of the packages are from cheese and raisins!
This is just a bunch of advertising! How about making something that is all about you? Like photos of you and loved ones enjoying these products....
Deleilan - Raisins are nature's candy!
they are cute but may make me hungry :)
i'm with chartreuse... it's sad that folks who have been brainwashed by consumerist media and culture have convinced themselves that this is somehow OK and cute. wow.
spinsLPs: True!
It *is* OK and cute for people who like packaging design. It's not necessarily sad.
Nene, I love your idea about asking for magnets instead of other souvenirs. I think I will do that with my family. Somehow in my three moves in the past year all of my beloved magnets have been lost.
As for this idea with the food packaging... I don't care for it. Just not my style. The suggestion of filling candy packs with beans so that they still shake is even odder IMHO.
Stop! No more, please! The refrigerator is neither art gallery, message board, nor filing cabinet.
HST, I do love the idea of these. Would make a nice art piece in a diner-themed kitschy kitchen. Maybe a chair rail of these boxes along one wall... Or as a frame for a message board.... The ideas keep coming....
It would be clever if any of the examples were well designed. The Sun Maid and the Laughing Cow are close to being cultural icons, but kitsch is kitsch. And nothing about this is "awesome".
Ugh. I guess I am alone in finding this to be cluttery crap. I thought this site promoted good design and honoring your home.
oh my gosh guys...way too dramatic.
Let others like what they want, sheesh.
Isn't good design in the eye of the beholder?
I hate fridge magnets!
Some of you take life way, way too seriously.
How did they get the Rocky Road candy bar wrapper to look like there's still a candy bar in there? Did they leave it in?
This is a real fast and fun Idea for putting some life into a rented apartment that has one of those white on white dated looking kitchens like I have. It would be even better if you had a lot of vintage, bright colored dishes, pots and vases all over the room. Very 30's, 40's and 50's looking to me----when a lot of those boxes were really first designed I think.
so instead of throwing your trash away you stick a magnet on the back and put it on your fridge?
don't like it.
My magnets tell alot about me...my friends and family. I even have one my grandma made ...a bunch of grapes from purple pipe-cleaners and sequins. I need to re-organize from time to time, but these always bring me a smile. There are actually magnets of 'mini' versions of candy...such as my favorite junior mints...and other food, such as a jar of pickles.
That looks like fun
I am all for DIY magnets, but this looks like someone's trash can threw up all over their fridge.
Not my cup of tea but in defense of this post, people like different things, this being one of them.
Great, clever idea! We love the outside the box thinking...no pun intended.
