We made sure to swing by CB2 last night on our way to the Design Meetup — we were on a mission to check out their Crazy Linen Hamper in person. First off, it's definitely not crazy. It's about as basic and practical as you can find (and we've been looking). Squared off to occupy the least amount of space, it's covered in a dark textured linen/cotton that is completely inoffensive to modern sensibilities. The snap-out interior laundry bag is gray, so it won't look dingy after a month like the white ones...
There is an entire series of "crazy linen storage." The smaller size box fits inside the Sleepy Hollow Storage Bed.

I see a pretty easy DIY in the making with this one.
I made my own laundry hamper out of the curved chrome sides rails of a recycled salon nail table (to make a basic frame) and some canvas. It has multiple compartments, for my dry cleaning and laundry. And it has handles and buttons off to become a mobile bag. It was fun and cheap.
I have this hamper, and I love it! It's very sturdy and could even be used as a place to sit for a lightweight person. It's great for a studio to have out in the open, since it's attractive and doesn't really read as a laundry hamper.
The only minor quibble I have with it is that the lid doesn't stay open. Maybe that changes with repeat usage, but it's only a very minor annoyance.

I use one of the woven plastic bags (2 x 3 ft something) as a 'hamper'. Doesn't get sirty too quickly, but looks a bit messy. I could try to fashion a box like this, or perhaps place it in some to-be-constructed cupboard.
$80 for a hamper??? I'm starting to feel as if I'm one of the few readers who are LOW on the paychain.
I wish this was a little shallower. I want it, but I just don't have 12"D to spare in my bathroom, and I need a hamper!!
indiasoup, I'm with you! $80 for a HAMPER? Seriously? I don't have that kind of money for something to put my dirty clothes in. Then again, I'm the kind of person who keep the hamper in a closet (out of sight) so it doesn't matter much to me what it looks like.
after much searching for a decent laundry basket, i got this:

the laundry bag inside has velcro loops on it to hold it in place, and it easily holds 2 loads of laundry. the only "minus" is that it doesn't have separate compartments for lights and darks, but it was a good compromise between a laundry bag and the more expensive hampers out there.
The Green Cat - my closet is so small there is NO WAY anyone could fit a hamper in there...which is why i need a nice one that can sit out in the bedroom.
