If you can afford the hefty price tag of Williams Sonoma Home's metallic Mason Glass Top Desk, more power to you. As for the rest of us who don't have $1,500 collecting dust in our furniture fund, here's an IKEA hack that gets the same look for less.

The girls from Matters of Style decided to skip the expensive Williams Sonoma desk (top, left) and DIY their own metallic-legged workspaces.
Both inspired by the $1,500 sawhorse-desk-to-end-all-sawhorse-desks, they each combined glass desktops with two sets of IKEA's most popular sawhorse-style legs, the VIKA LILLEBY ($15 each, top right) and the VIKA LERBERG ($10 each, bottom) trestles.

And how did they add that little touch of glam? By spray painting the legs with a super-metallic spray paint.

You can get the same look from IKEA parts or by making over your own desk at home. These ladies went with a Krylon Metallic gold paint to get the look of bronze legs, but you could give your office a silver finish to get closer to the Williams Sonoma look.
If you're painting wood to try and look like metal, be sure to give your desk's legs a generous coat or two of primer beforehand. If you're trying to metal-up plastic pieces, try out a wax-metallic finish like Rub n' Buff.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Great idea!
Looks great!
I like the hack better than the WS version! Good job!
Where would you get a glass top like that and how much would it cost?
Bravo Ladies! CS24, you can get the class cut to custom size and tempered at any glass shop. They're very reasonable for square cuts w/o the bevel. IKEA also has as variety of tops as well. Pier one sells them too.
Instead of glass, you can buy an unfinished door from any hardware store and paint/stain it to match the legs. Cheaper than IKEA's desktop options.
why not spring for a marble top!
That's cool, but honestly doesn't touch the original. Points for creativity, though!
Considering how basic it is, I can't imagine why you'd even consider spending $1500 for the WS version. I think it looks great.
I love this table! I have everything I need to try making one of my own except for the glass top. The proportion of yours is perfect - what dimensions is it? Thanks for sharing your great idea!
