The fact that young children and board books are a perfect match is no secret. Their size is great for little hands and their sturdiness makes them withstand overzealous page turners and the harshest of budding literary critics. The fact that young children and family photographs are not such a perfect match is no secret either. That's why this clever way of combining the two is such a great idea.
Jessica at Utah County Mom came up with this ingenious solution for sharing family photos with her little girl. The finished product looks amazing and has to be one of the best ways to introduce a child to far-flung extended family members that we have seen. As with all of her tutorials, this one is thoroughly explained and illustrated with plenty of pictures.
Although she chooses to use blank board books she points out that any old board book can be used. Whichever path you choose, your child's bookshelf will be a bit more personal with one of these little books tucked away upon it.

Seems like a fair bit of work, but since my kids loved their little family photo album to death by ripping out the pages and pictures, something sturdier like this board book is really appealing, and probably well worth the effort. My only concern is the glossy finishing spray, since board books are likely to get chewed on, at least in my house....
I had the same question, re: the chewing + the spray.
Thank you for featuring me on your site! My little girl never went through a stage where she chewed on books so to be honest it didn't even cross my mind when planning for this project. However, I did use clear contact paper on the covers for extra protection. If you have a little muncher in your house, just use contact paper on all of the pages instead of the clear finishing spray if your spray is toxic.
Thanks again for the feature!
yeah this seems like ALOT of work but thanks, Jessica, for the contact paper idea!
I also have laminated photos (two at ones) and my 16 month old loves to look at them and throw them about. the lamination holds up well and he loves them. I bet photos could be laminated and then double taped inside the books too.
love this idea!
you can make books like this at photo shops. my MIL made them with wedding pics for all of her kids' weddings. way easier than all the effort here, and avoids the spray issue.
Sara.h, but the books aren't cardboard ones, are they ? Cause I looked everywhere a couple of years ago when I wanted to make one for my son and never found a website offering this service.
Jessica, which ones did you go for on the website ? Chunky bare books ? I love your project !
Very cool! Does seem like a ton of work, though. I found this online: http://www.pintsizeproductions.com/boardbook-baby-simple.html
Laurelmick, thank you !!! Wonder if they ship to Europe, now :)
