We've always been fans of the Philips LivingColors lamp. This nicely designed mood light will enable you to change the ambiance of a room with the push of a button. Sadly the price of the lamp can be quite overwhelming, especially if you want to get more than one. Thankfully, we've found a simple hack that can give you similar results. Albeit, the lamp won't looks as beautiful as the LivingColors, but it will cost you a lot less.

Simply put, you need to find a somewhat modern lamp and replace the existing bulb with an LED bulb, like the LED Color Changing Bulb With Remote from Chinavasion. Basically, once that's set up, you just change the color of the light with the remote. These LED bulbs cost less thank $20 each. In fact, Chinavasion sells them for $16.20.

Since this is for mood lighting, you should choose a lamp that's designed for this. Consider the IKEA Duderö. That standing floor lamp costs $20 and has got a nice shade that will diffuse the glow of the LED bulb.

All in all, this little trick will yield interesting results, especially wen you use lamp shades to diffuse the LED bulb. We can imagine a few of these lamps in our place, especially the home office, the bedroom, and even the living room. Since they won't cost as much as Philips LivingColors lamps, we won't break the bank on these lights.
