Creating a Family Writing Center

One of my favorite preschool activities was to write. I had a great teacher who stocked a corner of the classroom with story-writing paper, sharp pencils, and crayons. Every Wednesday she would let those who wrote something read it to the rest of the class. The class would choose a winner and the winner would win a creative writing prize. It was usually something like a candy bar, a pack of special pencils, a book of stickers - something small but that would be treasured. Creating a family writing center at home is a great way to spend some quiet time indoors.

We saw this fantastic writing center created using peg board. You can get fancy and build a writing center and stock it full like this one. Or if you're tight on space and budget, just a small basket with some paper and writing utensils is all you need. Oh, and if you're wedded to the one in the photo, you're in luck! You can buy it, including all the supplies, at Playful Learning.
