Yesterday we promised the deets on Carolyn's DIY faux bois creation and today--we deliver. You've probably seen a similar vintage side table in your local thrift store (and now you have a new and fun way to transform it).
Carolyn's table had been sitting alone in her basement just begging to be included in her home's decor. She first painted a base coat of robin's egg blue and once it dried, mixed brown interior paint with a clear glaze for the top coat. In small circles, Carolyn brushed on the top coat and immediately dragged a woodgrain tool (similar to this one) in a rocking motion through the paint. She also suggests checking out some YouTube videos for more detailed instructions.

The fake wood tone is interesting, but the blue isn't working for me. Wasn't this just a 60s formica-topped side table?
"Deets"? Seriously, can't professional writers use real words?
I like this idea, just not crazy about the blue color used.
Um, since this is intended as a DIY post, PICK WHATEVER COLOR YOU PREFER when doing your own version.
Sheeee-eeez.
I am all about faux bois lately, with its borderline kitschness and all.
Might have to try this!
LOVE THIS. Now I have to scour thrift stores for a piece to try it on....
If the table was formica, don't you have to sand and prime first? And did she seal it, so you can put stuff on the top? Painting furniture with plain old latex is only marginally successful, I think.
Yes, I later sealed the table, FantasticMrFaux! This was my first attempt, I learned a little as I did more pieces!
