For the last few weeks I have been helping a friend design her space on a tight budget. Staying on budget, I first found a few different options for fabric under $30/yard to make curtains. Now the next challenge is to create a pattern on the wall without using wallpaper or stencils.
A few of my ideas included decals and plastic 3-dimensional wall decor. We are going to buy a few sets of the falling leaves from Urban Outfitters and create our own pattern. By creating our own pattern with the leaves, she will have a unique wall design. I can't wait until the leaves come in the mail and then we can start our Saturday project of pinning the leaves to the wall. Wish us luck!

Now to actually comment on this...I still can't get over the fact that stencils and decals never look right. No matter who does it, it still looks juvenile and trendy rather than classic and tasteful.
I like the 3 D birds!
@Pi, I rather like them. At least some of them. I do understand that some do look "off" but I especially like the light bulbs and leafs. I believe it has to fit a personality and characteristic of the house. Not ever house can have decals like this.
the stars are a bit much. and why is that girl's faced shoved into that mug?
weird.

25 flowers for $22 -- just like the first picture. Also in chrome and black. I've had my eyes on them for a bit. Not sure how much shipping is or from where.
thank you Runemistress, i knew i'd seen them somewhere cheaper!
Has anyone ever tried the fabric on the wall adhered with laundry starch? Nate Berkus demo'd it, as did Trading Spaces many years back. Supposedly, you can peel it off w/no damage to the paint or walls when you move.
I actually got the Umbra wallflowers in black for $20 at Bed Bath and Beyond. They're pretty awesome. Here's how I used mine.

@Pi: yup. At the very least, it's quite a "young" look. (To say nothing of the thick hipster overtones.)
