&bull: 1-2. Lauren of Pure Style Home has an amazing talent for turning simple, everyday objects into smile-inducing focal points. In her bedroom she used large nails loosely arranged to display her beautiful necklace collection. I love the dreamy contrast between the soft white walls and the bright interesting necklaces. Be sure to check out her full, night and day bedroom transformation here.
• 3., 4. Christiana Coop owner of Ferm Living and Hygee & West has special jewelry knobs designed specifically with this purpose in mind, which are available through Hygee & West for $8 a piece.
• 5. A hanger is another solution for those hesitant to out a lot of nail holes in their walls. The one pictured above, from Country Living, is actually not a hanger, but an old rake! However, a tie rack hanger would work just as well, as would a multi-tiered pant hanger. I use one on the back of my closet door.
What other creative solutions have you used to display and organize your jewelry?

Nomade Express Slee...
hmmm, i would love to be able to display my jewelry in some way like that, but i have a feisty little kitty who would have a field day with something like that, so everything needs to be stored away. any ideas for cool jewelry boxes, or other display options, anyone?
I love ideas like this, but, a) don't have enough jewelry to do this and b) the few pieces that I do have aren't interesting enough to be displayed this way. :(
I use a thread rack, which is mounted on my wall. Long necklaces go on the bottom, dangly earrings up top, with bracelets in the middle. I have a lot of jewelry but there's a place for everything and it looks great too.
Ahhh, finally, some recognition for this. I've always displayed my jewelry out in the open. See my earrings. Not only does it look pretty, but it makes things easier to find! Its perfect for organizing my collection and people comment on it all the time...and then ask to borrow earrings :D
For the rack itself, I actually used this shelf piece from an Ikea shelving unit, and just hung it on nails on the wall instead of the way its supposed to be used.
Also, any time any jewelry breaks, I glue the pieces onto this very dirty mirror so they still get to sparkle.
@ariellie - if you hang something high enough on the wall, its out of kitty range, although they do look at it longingly
@delafielder - if you don't have a ton of jewelry, things can look very pretty hung in something like this jewelry cabinet or on this tree. If I had few enough necklaces, I would do something like this... but alas, being a jewelry fiend has its pitfalls :)
I wrote a post about this last year, I displayed all of my jewelry on a bulletin board with some inspiration photos.

Those wooden lay figures are great for hanging lighter necklaces, right off the arms!
I started doing this out of necessity (I had no other good way to store the necklaces without them getting tangled) before I realized it really was a design element. Right now I have a beautiful, Mexican-inspired, metal coat hanger on my wall that I hang all of my necklaces on. It's sort of similar to this one: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_B6J6nGs6VwA/Sz4VNpW2qsI/AAAAAAAAjD4/5aQyVQbEGCg/s400/For longer chunkier necklaces use a coat rack like this scroll metal multi hook from Urban Outfitters.jpg
Yay!!! i've been doing this forever!
plus I search out really pretty hooks so that they are part of the decoration.
The added bonus is i wear every single one of my necklaces because they aren't buried out of sight so i never forget which ones i have (i have many..)
These are cool. I have a step by step tutorial to make a pretty cool one too. Check it out: http://queenofdiy.com/organization/diy-hanging-jewelry-holder.html
the necklaces on the wall inspire me to do the same. beautiful <3
that's good idea.
I have been using an old window frame with the glass removed and a new mesh screen stapled to the back. I hang my earrings in the holes of the mesh and hang my necklaces on nails I hammered along the frame itself. You can paint it a fun color and hang it up.
Don't things tarnish then you have to clean and polish ?
I use cork board to display my jewelry in my bedroom. It makes it so much easier to find the perfect one for the attire each day. I have a lot of bijou, so this work better than anything for me.
I have some small purses from the 1940s displayed in this way. They are just hung from brads, but it still works. And now they are not just languishing in some drawer somewhere.
I've created my own 'jewelry knobs' using cast-off lids to sugar bowls, cookie jars, and teapots. The flange on the back keeps the lids offset from the wall surface and provides room to hang stuff. In some cases, the knob on the lid can also be used to hang things from.
i covered a piece of plywood with cotton batting then with a pretty fabric (all stapled around the back as you would cover a seat cushion). nailed this to my wall and use t-pins to hang all my jewelery. it looks great!
i own a lot of jewelry (sigh) and while my earrings are posted on a wooden earring post that is on display my earrings are tucked away in a vintage danish spice cabinet with clear drawers. i used to keep my necklaces on a tie rack, but found that some of them were damaged and/or weakened by all the weight of the necklace being placed in one section; they also tend to get tangled. for all other jewelry fun open containers, trophies, sculptures, work great.
whoops, not my earrings tucked away, my necklaces are tucked away...
I just finished mine! I used knobs from Anthropologie that I got for $2.95 or less. I would love to grow it out, but don't have any necklaces left!

BHG once did a house tour where the owner had her jewelry displayed by color/style in a group of shadow boxes. They were beautiful. I wish I could find it online.
i have a collection of bird necklaces, which hang over a thrift store mirror i painted white.

Yes, missitaly, things do tarnish (unless you just have costume jewelry...and no real silver jewelry). I was just about the bring that up myself! As a jewelry designer (sterling silver, etc), leaving sterling exposed will tarnish it. It's the sulfides in the air that darken your silver items, especially in smoggy LA!
I prefer to put my items in small plastic baggies (available at Michael's, etc) and thumbtack/pin it to a corkboard. That way I can both see the jewelry and protect it at the same time!
For the scientific-inclined, here's a great explanation of tarnish (I have no affiliation with the website):

This is really helpful. I've been trying to figure out how to display my jewelry. Although I have tons of bracelets and earrings. Not sure how to make those look as nice as teh necklaces with knobs. Suggestions?
mirandabee - i love the idea of knobs from teapot tops and sugarbowls..... i'm so curious; how do you attach these to the wall?
I've got mine hanging from cup hooks attached to a fabric-covered cork board.
romeoandjewels- thanks for the plastic bag idea. that's my next 'to-do'.
eghelms - love the picture of your earrings displayed. I have been looking for a pair of earrings that look like peacock feathers. Mind telling me where you found yours? Thanks!
I actually got them at a festival a few years ago... so, hit up something local like that? Or, if you are into making jewelry, you can buy the feathers and earring hooks at Michaels and make em yourself :)
I unfortunately don't have the wall space plus it's a little cluttery for my taste. I use a plastic office box decorated with some pretty paper and filled with interlocking egg crates.
you just totally inspired me to let my readers know how i display ALL my dozens of necklaces...via a rotating tie rack!
i used to do sweet nails on the wall but then the collection got MUCH bigger and just too much for tons of nails :)
so here's the link to my post and i hope it helps other accessory lovers get organized...it's been a full proof option for YEARS:

ps - i also linked back to your post on here to give my readers more display ideas :)
I really like your jewelry displays. I saw similar at Sieraden, but not as beautiful as these ones.
