My husband, the flea-market junkie, bought these great soda crates from First Monday Trade Days in Canton, TX. I've been trying to find the perfect use for them for months and discovered five creative ways to use them as an organizational tool in the home.
1. Tie Organization
2. Arts & Crafts Carryall
3. Under the Sink Utility
4. Kitchen Spice Rack
5. Guest Bathroom Caddy
As you can see, these crates are really great for creating vignettes in the home, a trend that, like it or not, is becoming more and more popular. Soda crates are easy to find on Etsy or at your local flea market and cost anywhere between $12-$40 depending on where you purchase. They also stack nicely if you want to use more than one. Happy organizing!

Shaw's Original Fir...
I was just coming on to search for vintage crate use, and this was the first post! love it! Thank you!
I love the idea of putting ties in there, but aren't splinters a worry? I'd hate to wreck the silk.
Great post! I love soda crates and have one in my kitchen as a spice rack.
There is no way on earth that I'm putting my expensive neckties into a beat up old soda crate - That's the most foolish idea I've seen here yet.
@bepsf - I'm thinking maybe lining the cubbies with velvet would be a good way of getting around the splinters, but the work might not be worth it.
Plus, there's the whole "preserve the original wood!" crowd.
Ties in an old crate?
I don't see how that can go wrong.
Velvet in the crate is a very good idea - some nice ties can be ruined merely by a little roughness in the wood, not even splinters!
I learned this sadly from experience. :(
I have two that are hanging in my bathroom for jewelry organization. I love the contrast of the shiny and glitzy against the rough, grayed wood.
i love that tie organizer!
