As part of a project in Germany, Jan Korbes used recovered antique floor wood and leftover construction wood to create this unusual staircase of add-on boxes. This is just one of many "garbage architecture" projects by the Dutch firm - jump below for more photos of the installation and construction:

I really do love this; BUT, this screams code violation in the U.S.
Yet another gorgeous but deadly staircase...
how cool! I love it! I am curious how they would deal with a railing and these stairs...
No main structural member at all? I don't think I'd be willing to use it.
This looks dangerous!
If it had an independent reinforced handrail that could hold a suspended adult's weight when the stairs gave way, I'd say yes!
Another great recycling idea. It does need a rail and proof of support, but overall I like it.
I'd be too scared to climb these stairs.
I'd suggest a great deal of sanding and some stain/lacquer as well. Those boxes look hideous no matter how cool it is that they're recycled and have no supports.
They're quite beautiful. There is indeed support. It's built into the design which is part of its genius. To add to it would take away from the design.
If you don't have kids or come home in a drunkin stuper it's awesome!
