Our home theater relies on a single quasi-surround speaker solution mostly due to budget, but also partially because we hate the idea of running speaker wire willy-nilly across our small rental. Wireless speakers may be a future solution when we finally decide to upgrade, especially when prices for performance speakers are coming down to a reasonable mark.
Speaker manufacturer Crystal Audio is offering two wireless speaker solutions, the TR-100 and TR-60. The two wireless systems use a transmitted good up to a 75ft range, with the TR-100 providing up to 100 watts of power driven by an ultra compact 200W stereo amp for each speaker and operated by individual receivers. The more affordable TR-60 has a single receiver powering both speakers with a built-in amp. Additional features include on-wall wireless amplification, uncompressed wireless transmission of the audio signal, interference-free replay, and a delay latency of less than 2ms that's inaudible to the human ear. The TR-100 is available for £399 ($790), while the TR-60 sells for £249 ($493) from Crystal Audio.
