One of the most frequently asked questions here at Ohdeedoh is how to store the collections of small things that children collect. It might be beads, rocks, or buttons — one thing is for sure, we're always looking for an easy way to store things without having to dump out an entire box to find what's needed. Well do we have a solution for you!
While meandering through our local Costco last night we ran across this cupcake holder. We love cupcakes, so we were a moth to a flame, but what really struck us is the great use of space this organizer makes. It holds three tiers of cupcakes and has a lid that locks with two clasps on each side of the container. They're sturdy locks, but ones that small hands could undo without parental assistance. Good for collections, but could be detrimental to your cupcakes! Cupcake thieves!
We think this holder would be ideal for sorting rocks and shells where kids like to simply look at everything they have. With removable trays, it means you can see everything you have, keep them sorted and remove only what you need to instead of hearing the loud dumping sound as you know the entire box of rocks was just deposited into the middle of your living room floor.

While I'm still trying to decide on the best way to display the rock collection, I did do something similar to your idea here... I got my son one of those clear plastic sewing/beading storage boxes with lots of compartments (similar to: http://www.opentip.com/Bulk-Sale/Plastic-Organizer-Box-p-1188390.html). He LOVES it. Something where he can organize his rocks, and still see them, and it's much easier to tote around than the jars or buckets.
This is a great idea. I used a plastic covered hors d'oeuvres dish, like for taking veggies and dip to a pot luck I bought at Wal-mart, to store all the little bottle nipples, pacifiers, and bottle travel lids in when my daughter was a baby.
I bough 2 cupcakes couriers because they are so great! I used to bake for a loca coffee shop and they made transport a breeze! I've never used them for anything but cupcakes, but this sound like a great idea!
My kids always use little tools boxes with the storage for nails, and screws and such that pull out. Cheep and durable.
bummer... I can't find it at my local Costco.
I really want the white one!
