I'm smitten with these elegant DIY party lights made from cupcake liners. I came across this project on Oh Happy Day and immediately thought of you, my fellow DIYers. Ok, technically I first thought of cupcakes, but then I thought of all of you.
While these garlands are not sturdy enough to use as long-term outdoor lighting, I think they would be beautiful as party decor for a summer evening soiree. The materials are all ordinary household items so it's possible the project won't cost you a cent.

Finished product featuring cupcake liner flowers.

How flammable would something like this be? There are oodles of adorable DIY light fixtures with paper and cardboard, but I always have to wonder if it is dangerous.
Seeing as cupcake liners go in the oven, I'd think it would be okay. I doubt a little christmas light can get as hot as an oven.
Cute! They have lots of patterned cupcake liners now as well, so there are lots of possibilities with this. :)
oldfamiliarway Cupcake liners are for lining a metal pan and are filled with moist cake. That said, is not the same as using on electrical wires and bulbs.
I made these last night and they are adorable. I used a little piece of double stick tape between the layers just because I live in Kansas and you know...the wind.
i did a strand of lights with oragami paper boxes over each bulb - looking back they were probably more unsafe than this as the paper actually touched the bulb in many spots - i never had a fire. Maybe I was just lucky! I would light them all the time. Like most things probably a good idea only to keep them lit when you are around and keeping an eye out...
What about the foil liners? Ive seen them in colors and they would have a great sheen to them
This is to everyone who is understandably concerned about fire...Fire is a minor concern with these kinds of lights. The paper might scorch but there just isn't enough energy generated by one of these bulbs to cause it to burst into flames. If there was you couldn't safely use them on a tree .
The caveat, of course, is that the lights themselves need to be in good working order and properly safety rated for indoor use..
