Are you thinking about building a solar powered and water-efficient home? Then you might want to get yourself to Washington, D.C. next month and check out The Solar Decathlon, a Department of Energy-run event where student teams from 20 universities compete for the best solar home design. The homes will be assembled for public viewing on the National Mall October 9-13 and 15-18. For their entry in the competition, students from Boston Architectural College and Tufts University have designed the Curio House...

Putting the emphasis on affordability and using easily available materials and technologies, the 800 square foot building is projected to cost $200,000; it'll be the first building in a green housing development going up in Cape Cod. For more details on this building, including a close look at some of the construction details, click here or go to the Curio House website for full specs.
