OMG those laddle set is amazing!
Enamel is beautiful esp/ milky white with cobalt trim !!!
but if made in China --beware -- it can peel and chip easily.
I have an old bake set like the one pictured, crafted in England and very durable.
Now I am tempted to order this set.
http://www.amazon.com/BlissHome-Nigella-Lawsons-Kitchen-Utensil/dp/B000BOK5D2/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337872035&sr=8-1-spell
I don't know about the non-porous part . . . my mother gave me some enamel pots years ago and they stained like crazy every time I used them. Then they started to chip. I eventually chucked them out and haven't used enamel since.
I've always loved enamel-coated pots and pans ... I have a covered roaster and stock pot that are made in the USA and that I use all the time. They are inexpensive and last forever, if you take care of them. I buy GraniteWare.
I have this addiction. The vintage pieces are better but they all work well. I think it is that they are clean looking and simple that is the draw. (and the vintage ones are CHEAP!!)
I almost bought that Nigella Lawson set on amazon a couple years ago, but someone on AT had bought it and said it hadn't held up at all- i.e. was chipping and peeling after only the first few uses, so I left it alone. I'd read the reviews on amazon carefully before buying it.
As a rule, I rarely buy anything that's endorsed by some "celebrity" chef. The quality rarely matches the premium you pay to have a celebrity name stamped on the box.
Love love love the enamel ladle set!
That Enamel Ladle Set is obcessable..
but I already have the Nigella Lawson set in the pale blue for about three years now and have only a tiny, tiny chip on one of the spoons you can barely see it.
I hand wash and hang them so I guess it will depend on how you take care of them.
Vintage enamel ware, in my experience, holds up much better than current stuff. I rotate my chipped & rusting enamelware colanders out to the garden for spring containers. Over the years, the several vintage enamelware colanders I have, as well as our compost buckets - large, vintage enamelware pots & lids - show nary a sign of wear!
Try using a magic eraser for the stains! I use it on my enameled cast iron, pyrex, etc, and it takes the stains right out. I love my enamelware collection!
I had a lovely enamel tea kettle, till my mom came for a visit and forgot the kettle on the stove. Eight years later, I still have white enamel stuck to that one burner.....
