Custom Cabinets for Old Drawers by schubLaden

A friend of ours posted a link to this company on her Facebook page last night and we were instantly smitten. schubLaden, a German furniture making company finds old drawers and builds new casings perfectly suited to the old drawers.

It's so heartening to see all these old, beautiful orphan drawers find new homes. The designers at schubLaden seem to do a stunning job of harmonizing disparate styles of drawers into lovely new pieces in which the sum is greater than the parts.

As you might imagine, these pieces of furniture are pricey. Oh, and they're in Germany. But if nothing else they are wildly inspiring.

Just FYI, in German Schublade = Drawer, Laden = Store. German humor.

Wow. Clever idea, reuse of old materials, and an attractive result. I'm thinking this might be a good DIY project for someone with decent carpentry skills.

Great concept and nice craftsmanship.

Some of them look great, but a couple look terrible. I love the first one, with the bright red drawer, but I think the one with the green and pink drawers looks awful. Overall, I love the idea and the look.

oops, maybe that pink thing isn't a drawer after all. I actually love that cabinet, but without the pink thing.

I love Schubladen's stuff but hate its pricetag, so I agree with slowdown that this is a DIY dream -- ideally, a DIY dream posted online with step-by-step instructions.

I'm guessing one would first collect and arrange a cool assemblage of drawers and then build the casing (carcass?) around them. Or not. I'm carpentry illiterate.
