Less is More, right? Well in the case of an opaque black orb trying to pass itself off as a light fixture, then yes. You're going to have to custom crack this egg if you want any of that sweet, bright light inside.
The super-artsy Less Lamp is a light fixture and a hobby.
Before you get even a dim glow from this egg, you'll need to poke at least a few holes into the shiny, breakable black exterior. But whenever you're bored, you can use the included pickaxe to chip away at the pendant, creating your own design or just hacking it out randomly.
W\It's available for purchase from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) Store, but we're not sure we want to pay $875 for something we're just going to break. But it's probably cheaper—and more effective—than therapy.

this annoys me for some reason. not sure if it's because you break it and (as a mother!) that seems like a death ball. Or because it's almost 900 dollars. Or the combination. I do like the one picture of "light" poked into it with all the stary holes, though.
This would be a good balloon-and-plaster strips project. You can get those plaster attached to cloth strips for cheap at craft stores, you do it up around the balloon like the old paper mache projects of our youth, add a 5$ pendent light fixture and fashion a holder out of a wire coathanger, and paint it black. You'd get a different effect when you hacked it up cause of the cloth, but pretty much the same concept for under 20$. Done!
