The IKEA Expedit shelving system is a universal favorite for its durability and versatility, but we often hear from readers who can't find bins that suit their liking or decor. Check out this simple no-sew redo of the Dröna box, IKEA's most affordable Expedit bin.
When the team at Ruche got together to decorate their office they grabbed a bunch of $4.99 Dröna boxes and pretty fabric. They cut the fabric to fit the sides, smoothed it on with glue then chose a contrasting fabric for the handles. The look is perfectly suited for Ruche's vintage aesthetic, and the same method could be used to coordinate Dröna boxes with any look. Find more pictures of the process and product at the Ruche blog.

Perfect timing! I literally just opened the box to start building this shelving unit. I'm pretty creative, but for some reason I didn't think to do this! Thanks!

I recently used several (very ugly) mismatched milk crates, which fit like a glove. I then got some inexpensive fabric (and used the monthly 40% off coupon) and made crate covers using this tutorial: http://lauragunn.typepad.com/paintinmyhair/2008/09/post-1.html.
They are in my son's room. The upside: I saved a ton of money by using the crates I had laying around and I was able to customize them. The downside: They tend to shift when toys are taken in and out. I'm considering sewing some elastic on the underside of the corners to hold them in place. We'll see!
