If you're at all interested in antiques, we have one word of advice, regarding Da Barn: Go. Located less than two hours from Chicago in New Buffalo, Michigan, this old barn is a scavenger's heaven. The prices are reasonable and the inventory seems endless.
Jump down for a whole slew of recent photos and to find out what, other than the name, makes this place so cool...
When visiting immense antique or thrift stores, we often find it hard to concentrate. With piles of furniture, artwork, and accessories scattered every which way, it's easy to get distracted and overwhelmed. Da Barn does have tons of stuff but what makes them stand out is their styling. Throughout the store, small collections of goods are stacked and arranged by color. This brilliant tactic gives the eye a moment of monochromatic rest and allows the shopper to refocus.

One of Da Barn's stronger points is vintage luggage. Suitcases, cosmetic carry-alls, hat boxes; they sell cases in all shapes and colors and each one we checked was nearly pristine.

Word!
can i pick this up and move it to boston, pretty please?
that pink suitcase is fabulous!
we were JUST there last week, and they have weekend-only hours, so we missed it :(
Been there, and it's even more amazing than these pictures look! A great place to stop on your way to Saugatuck.
This place makes me wish I had car.
BUT! The color-coordinating makes me want everything!
Oh hell! Looks like I'm going to Michigan.
Oh, no! I always sort of cringe when my favorite antique hunting destinations get press coverage! It's rather selfish of me, I know, but I love being able to find what I'm looking for and still have it be cheap. This store is fun because they color coordinate everything, and have a ton of stuff. The bonus is that it's next to the best burger place ever (Redamaks).
Then again, the whole area around New Buffalo has become pretty overdeveloped and congested in the past few years...so I shouldn't be surprised that more and more people are discovering places like this!
jealous
dont waste your time- this place is WAY over priced!
cool place to look but, save your energy and do it on flickr..
Wow. This place is smaller than I expected, overpriced and the owner is way creepy and underhanded. I saw multiple items at this place that I also saw at Pier One. A chair that I BOUGHT from Pier One like three years ago was being sold here. I guess the word antique is open for interpretation. Buyer beware.
Walking in this place was like walking into my Grandparents home! I loved it.The way the store was grouped by color and/or item made the place even more charming. On the other hand, the owners at Da Barn know what they have, and have priced it accordingly x 10.
Thanks for the warning, I'm headed to Edwardsburg (45 mins east) to visit my Grandma this weekend and thinking of stopping here. Now, I know it's not worth the trip. Guess I'm going to have to continue to spend hours on CL to find my bargains
But it still looks awesome.
