In my own home, I constantly fiddle and re-do my vignettes. Whether I'm bored or I just found something amazing at the thrift store, it seems flat surfaces are just an opportunity to do some merchandising chez moi. So when I ran across this series of images of the top of dabito's credenza, I was intrigued.
Dabito of Old Brand New is a man after my own heart, a thrifter through and through and a constant re-agitator of objects. Check out the images for how he tweaked his sideboard over a period of 6 months depending on mood and thrift store finds. It seems he follows Benita's advice for rotating collections. And since he lives in LA, I can only assume we're competing for the same finds — l love that teak lamp and the heart art!

these all look the same to me - too busy and too cluttered with nothing anchoring any of these vignettes. too many thin lines dividing the area visually into too many little bits & pieces. and that picture of the thing with the red pants and the giant ears scares me.
I like the *feel* of them, but they're too cluttered for my taste, as well. If I can't use a surface as, well, a surface, I get hives.
I've always had trouble making vignettes work in my spaces, but this gives me inspiration that I can do it too! Love!
the first, the third and the fourth are definitely the best. The other two, eehhh.
With the vignettes looking more cluttered from left to right, It looks more like a sequence of stuff gradually accumulating.
I put a lot of myself into vignettes years ago, and still enjoy other people's. That said, I'm increasingly unwilling to commit to the effort required to keep them nice-looking in my own home. I have less time and space for things that are just for being looked at since developing new interests and goals.
I can't wait 'til my kids are bigger so I can have vignettes!!!
Wait, no, I can.

I love these! Who doesn't accumulate things in their home? Here at least, the 'stuff' looks amazing!
Too much clutter! Less is more!!
I think this is inspiring for folk who live in small spaces who love to read, collect and have art around them. Not all of us have the pleasure to hide our stuff in cupboards and abundant storage so bravo for actually making the pieces you love to have around you look fabulous
